mo2 Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 I first detected this issue on Publisher, but I have the exact problem on Photo and Designer as well: Whenever I try to enter decimal points when transforming objects, setting the font size or paragraph leading, etc. it is not working. Using the comma (e.g.: 20,5) it is neither working on the alphanumeric side, nor the numpad. The dot (e.g.: 20.5) is not working either. I have tried different Document Units (like Millimeters, Centimeters or Pixels), but it makes no difference. My system language is German, the keyboard language and program language as well. Changing the keyboard language and/or the program language to English, does not change anything. I also tried changing and resetting the "Decimal Places for Unit Types" under Preferences > User Interface, but they were already at default setting before (e.g.: Pixels: 1, Millimeters: 1, Centimeters: 1) There is different behavior using a dot or a comma as delimiter: Behavior using a dot as delimiter: When I try to change the width or height of an object under transform and the width is set to 140.8 mm and I replace the "8" with a "5" (nothing else, the "." between 140 and 5 stays there untouched like before) it changes the width to 1405 mm. Same as typing in a whole new number like 105.3 (width changes to 1053 mm after pressing enter). Behavior using a comma as delimiter: But when using a comma "," instead of a dot ".", like 105,3 it just switches back to the previous width: Current Width is set to 140.8 mm -> I type in 105,3 -> It switches back to 140.8 mm like I made a wrong input. I am running Affinity Publisher, Photo and Designer all in Version 1.10.5.1342 I have no idea what else I can try. Maybe someone has an idea why this happens and can help me. Thanks in advance. Quote
Staff stokerg Posted September 18, 2022 Staff Posted September 18, 2022 Hi @mo2 and Welcome to the Forums, We do have an issue logged with the Developers where using ,5 rounds down and using .5 rounds up when the system language is set to German. So i suspect, this will be related to that bug and i will confirm that with the QA team and update the report with the Dev team that this happens with not just ,5 or .5 values. Quote
mo2 Posted September 18, 2022 Author Posted September 18, 2022 Thanks @stokerg for your fast reply and digging further into this. I already had this problem for a couple of months now and finally decided to post it to the Forum, after trying numerous things to fix it. After you replied stating the problem could be in context with the system language set to German, I thought about trying to narrow the problem down a bit and remembered installing Affinity Publisher on my Windows Bootcamp Install on my MacBook (didn't think about it before as I've only used Publisher once on my Mac): I noticed that the delimiter used in the software was a comma "," instead of a dot "." On my PC Publisher displayed the width like that: 120.4 mm On my MacBook (but Windows 10 Installation like my PC) like that: 120,4 mm Solution: After noticing that, I went to the system control panel on my PC, into the "Region" settings -> "Additional settings..." ("Weitere Einstellungen" in German) and noticed the "decimal symbol" ("Dezimaltrennzeichen" in German) was set to dot ".". On my Mac (but Windows 10 as well) it was set to comma ",". After changing it to comma "," on my PC as well, Publisher suddenly displayed numbers like that: 120,4 mm (before it was 120.4 mm) and I am now able to type in numbers with decimal points using the comma "," on my keyboard. Idk why the decimal symbol was set to dot "." on my PC, but I hope this might help anyone, who runs into the same problem as me. Thanks again @stokerg for leading me in the right direction!
