Affinity Designer Crashes When Opening Any File

Today - quite suddenly - Affinity Designer v1.10.5.1342 running under Windows 10 has started crashing shortly after startup when clicking menus, or when attempting to open any .afdesign file. There are no error messages, the window simply disappears.

I've tried uninstalling & re-installing, but that did not help.

The Windows Application Event Log shows the following error related to the crash:

Application: Designer.exe

Does anyone have any bright ideas as to what I should try next to get Designer working again?

Thanks for any help!

Hi @tarms and @KJ3 welcome to the forums,

Thanks for providing the solution to your problem. 🙂

My Affinity Designer will not open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, I have cleared the data and everything.

Could you provide us with a crash report if one is available, the below thread details how to find these.

Similar problem here.  Both Designer and Photo are opening to the app, then immediately closing.  By app, I mean it's they are getting past the splash screen, and look ready for me to start working. I don't even get to click on any menus before they close out.  No error messages.

Reinstalled Photo, no change

Tried to run from .exe as Admin.  No change.

Attached .dmp files for both.  Modified dates are not recent.

I have been having a problem of the whole computer randomly shutting off with a BSOD.  Dell is shipping a new part (memory, if I recall corectly)  The behaviour of Photo and Designer is new.  Rest of apps on the machine are working.

Hi @LuggageGuy welcome to the forums,

I would initially try the below:

- Run the .NET Framework Repair Tool to confirm there are no issues with framework, once run, reboot your PC and try using Photo/Designer again https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135

- This could be caused by a Third Party app interfering with the software, i've linked a forum thread below with a comprehensive list however it may be worth trying to launch the apps after closing down all third party apps open in the taskbar. It may also be worth creating a new temporary Windows user and launching the apps from this new user just to confirm nothing else is interfering.
