Ruth19 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I am currently creating a digital journal inside Affinity Publisher that currently has 390 pages and 14 master pages. I am experiencing extreme lag in performing most actions, but most noticeable is the inability to export (File > Export). I just get the spinning beach ball and the program becomes unresponsive. I have tried to figure out why and noticed that the issue started when I added more master pages. So I started removing master pages and the more master pages I removed the faster the response time was (still was taking several minutes). When I had just has one master page there was minimal if any lag time. I don't have any images in this file apart from one SVG icon, which doesn't seem to be an issue. I am using a MacBook Pro 2017 16GB with macOS Monterey 12.5.1 and running Affinity Publisher 1.10.5. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Dan C Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Hi Ruth19, Welcome to the forums, Would it be possible to send us a copy of the file? Go to File > Save as Package, then select everything including images etc to ensure we can open the file in the same way, then upload to this link https://www.dropbox.com/request/sHiAbSDG9gCMZSOIIbod Lee Quote
Ruth19 Posted August 22, 2022 Author Posted August 22, 2022 Hi Lee Thank you for your response. I can't save the file as a package as I have the same problem as when trying to export it ( original file). However I figured out that I forgot to merge my curves in the master pages (and I had a lot of them). Once I merged all the curves I didn't have any problems. This reduced the file size from 42.3 MB to 2.3 MB, so quite a big difference. I would have thought that Affinity Publisher would have been able to handle a 42.3 MB file, as it isn't that big. Is it because of all the curves that were not merged that Affinity Publisher couldn't handle this size of file or is this size file too big for Affinity Publisher? Thanks Ruth Quote
Dan C Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 The file size of a vector image are not the same as file sizes for images, as they essentially contain mathematical data to recreate those curves, 42.3mb is a huge vector document and will contain enough information to make your computer think very very hard. To give you an idea just how large that SVG is, this document below is .52 mb Lee Ruth19 1 Quote

The curves were the little dots that formed a dotted grid and the lines that created a lined page and these were applied to 12 of the masters and applied to majority of the pages in the file. So that is a lot of curves when they haven't been merged. So can see how that would cause issues. I was thinking file size is file size, but you are right it does depend what is contained in the file. Thanks so much for your help. Ruth Dan C 1 Quote
