I'm looking for a way to apply a grayscale/black and white effect to a photo in a gradient; I.e. The top of the photo would be in color, and transition to black and white at the bottom. Is this possible?

Hi Sheekstreak,

Welcome to the Forums :)

I have made a video demonstrating how to do this you can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v0elhhuikhblz27/Black%20and%20white.mov?dl=0

I will also include instructions below.

1. Once I had opened my photo I went over to the Adjustment tab to the right of the Layers tab.

2. Then I chose the Black and White Adjustment and clicked the X on the pop-up window.

3. After that I navigated back to the Layers tab and Alt - Clicked the Black and White Adjustment layer this allows me to see the Mask rather than the adjustment.

4. I then switched to the Gradient tool [G] and drew a Gradient from the top of the Mask to the bottom and set one end to black.

5. Finally I clicked my Image Layer in the Layers tab to see the finished result.

I hope this helps :)
