JeanT
Hello, I am a professional technical illustrator and a new user of Affinity Designer . My illustrations are imported by my clients in Adobe illustrator and Adobe InDesign. I have create an Affinity Designer document with all lines in a Global color 100% Black and overprint. I exported this document as a High quality EPS (300dpi). When opened in Adobe illustrator or imported in Adobe Indesign, ... the 100% black color is replaced by a CMYK composed by a mix of the four channels. (91% Cyan + 78% Maj + 62% Yellow + 97% black). So, the original color composition of Affinity is lost! Can anyone tell me what I do wrong? Is there a way to keep the color composition between Affinity and Adobe? Thank you very much in advance for your help, jean
Old Bruce
The Affinity Document may have been an RGB Document. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4 Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
JeanT
Hello Bruce, ... well yes, you are right! I did not pay attention to this, ... my document was in rgb. So I did another test saving the Affinity doc in CMYK and export the eps. The result in illustrator is the same ... :-(. The full black is still translated in all channels CMYK. I did a last check saving the Affinity in Grey16, ... and there it worked. 🙂 I get only black channel in Illustrator. ... but it does not solve totally my problem, as it work only with a totally black colored document. JimmyJack
Hi @JeanT How are you making your global color? Which of the shapes in your grab is giving you the color panel result (none look actively selected)? (the left column looks richer than the square on the right) If you reopen the EPS in Affinity is it still 100% black? Can you post the test file? How does the attached open for you? (made in AD, CMYK) (as you can see the three big shapes are 100% in AI) cmyk black test w global.eps
JeanT
Hello Jimmy, Thank you very much for your reply and help! I think I have now understood my mistake! I did not pay enough attention to the "document configuration" in AD AND AI !!! It must absolutely be set in CMYK in both softwares (wich is ... logical :-). I have now good results in Illustrator, with "hand made CMYK" and Global colors. ... I think I figured it now 🙂 .... Thank you again for your help. ! ... And now, ... next step 🙂 I would like to have a 100% black OVERPRINT. I did a test with AD Global colors Overprint (with the little triangle up-right). ... unfortunately (of course?) overprint is not respected in AI :-(. Any idea of what I did wrong this time? Best regards, Jean
JimmyJack
Hi Jean, Without getting into the whole EPS vs x, y, z thing.... The easiest (and maybe only?) solution is to use PDF instead. When exporting, go to the "more" screen and check overprint black and/or honor spot colors. I have to check but if the former is checked I don't think it even needs to be made into a global (in order to get to the overprint option).... but you might want it to be global anyway. Spot colors have the same overprint option as globals. Speaking of globals......if you want all your colors to show up as swatches in AI, the globals in AD need to also be spot colors. The designation can be easily switched from spot to cmyk in AI if need be.
