Did I just loose hours of work or can I still recover my painting?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Does Undo help?

Are you also on an iPad?

Thank you and thank you for the reply. Unfortunately undo is not helping. I am on Desktop. I saved my work thinking it will help if I closed the program and opened it again but it still the same.

This is how the layer look where the artwork was:image.png.91d038ba24f08c12824158fa1be748cc.png

But the painting of the girl should be on it: image.png.be0968ddfc6a201c6e01bec96f4b2d8d.png

I would not expect that to help, and unless you used the Save with History option you'll have lost the history (and the ability to Undo) by closing the program.

I don't have any other ideas for you; with luck someone else will.

😔 I did undo many times before closing the program but nothing changed. That is why I thought restarting the program will fix it. Thank you anyway, I hope someone can help.

Hi Waterlili2020,
I'm not sure if your problem has something to do with the random rectangles on iPad, but there are similarities ...

That "Undo" doesn't help is one of the problem because there is - very often -  data deleted, also in the history. In the cases where undo helped, it was only a question of time until the next issue occured. The only way to stop the permanent damage unfortunately only is to open a new project and to hope that you've got the luck to have healthy copies of the damaged layer in storage. But this way of course, a workflow is not possible, 'cause you cannot endlessly copy layers and save copies of the project and so on. So in my opinion the app has become somehow unusable ...

To be honest I can't exactly tell what is the concrete defect in your artwork. There are many rectangles "over" the drawing, but this could be purpose? Which area exactly is the one with the blue recangle in the layer panel?

Can you tell the exact moment the error occured in your layer, so can you remember what was the direct cause? Because I somehow suspect some of the brush-plugins to be the problem. When I avoid them and only use standard brushes, the error stays away, at least as far as I could test it.

I'm not sure if the developpers really search for solutions ...

Hi Marina,

Yeah, the undo did nothing for me. The defect in the artwork is that it is not a painting anymore, but many rectangles with different colors and part of the painting is missing. I wish I took a screenshot so I can show the before picture. But here is an idea of how it should look like (a different artwork):

I think you you might be right it could have been the brushes. I did use a custom brush before the problem accrued. I can't believe all the work of few days are lost because of a brush 😥😔.
