SVG not saving as vector file

Recommended Posts

Im trying to create distressed vector file and save it as SVG. I tried all possible ways from tutorials that I found in youtube but it dosnt work. My main vector file is just black vector image of cactus. I want to distress-it with black and white grunge vector file. When I apply it it looks great in Affinity designer and it is vector file and I can zoom it in infinitely. But after saving as SVG it is not vector any more.

Can you please explain me how can I make it as a vector.

Thank you!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

What do you mean by "distress it with a black and white grunge vector file"?

We could use a sample document (.afdesign), or at least a screenshot of the complete application window, including the Layers panel so we can see what you have.

Well those SVGs have too much of unnecessary grouping mess for my taste, meaning there are a bunch of curve layers which can be combined, instead of having each curve in an own group etc. - Thus I would first clean up & simplify the SVGs, remove unnecessary groups, combine (geometrical add) related dependent curves etc. for "Simple.svg" and the grunge texture (the later has by far too much unnecessary groups at all).

Here's a sample with another taken much simpler and less space consuming SVG grunge template. I just clipped the grunge template (made their curves just white instead of black color) to the related drawing parts. You can instead try to mask if you need, but would have afterwards to check if it maybe then influences the plain vector SVG export in some way to rasterization (which you don't want of course here).

Thank you! Sorting out grouping makes lots of sense. In your example file is Vector but little spots on the pineapple is white not transparent. If Im making T-shirt design they should be transparent. I tried to erase the curves but then it makes white background. Like in the file below. In affinity designer it looks like it should be everything transparent but after saving....

That's what I said above, re-read what I wrote there!

In oder to make the stuff transparent in an exportable all vector SVG manner try out this here ...

In the AD file (Simple3.afdesign) I placed a rect at the bottom, which you can toggle on/off in the layers panel and change it's color for tryouts, in order to see if things shine transparent through there then.

But you have to check the exported SVG (Simple3.svg) too on different webbrowser backgrounds etc.!

Maybe when exporting in the SVG menu, you should disable the renders and the JPG file for features that are not supported. Read your svg export settings.

Any time you export your include a jpg on your files.

And it's ok to reduce the texture. Reduce the extra data.....
