If anyone more knowledgeable than me could clarify something I'd be very grateful. If I quick mask a section of an image in Photo and apply frequency separation to just the masked area, the result is that the rest of the unmasked image become darker due to the high frequency layer's blend mode being set to Linear Light.

How do I apply frequency separation to part of an image without affecting the rest of the image?

MacBook Pro 2.9GHz, 16GB, 4GB GPU, macOS 12.

Hi, @Ted88. You'll need to apply the mask at the end, rather than at the beginning. Thus…

1) Duplicate the layer onto which Frequency Separation is desired.

2) Apply Frequency Separation from the Filters menu.

3) Put the High and Low Frequency layers into a Group.

4) Put a mask on the group (rather than the layers themselves)
