Hello,

I'm pretty sure that when I created a new mask layer while another layer was selected, the mask was always under the selected layer.

After I accidentally reset the settings, the mask layer is always created as a new layer above the selected layer. I have not found any settings to change this back. Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened?

Go to View > Assistant Manager, there is a setting for masks.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
