Creating Macros - Limitations

Recommended Posts

I have a simple process for creating luminosity masks for my editing.  It involves repetitive steps creating and renaming spare channels.  However if I try to record a macro of these steps the macro fails to recognize the renaming step, indeed so does Affinity, and I am left simply with several channels called 'spare channel' and I have no way of knowing which one is which.

Is this because the renaming is done via a modal dialog box?  Is there any alternative way to rename a channel that will work and be recorded?

Thanks in advance.

......... By the way, I also notice that whilst recording a macro the context menu in the layers panel is unavailable.  I cannot right-click and select duplicate.  Of course I can duplicate with a keyboard shortcut or from the main menu so it isn't a big issue for this exercise.  Just noting it.

As it relates to AP macros, there is currently (i) no way to rename a Spare Channel; (ii) no way to select a spare channel by name; or (iii) no way to delete a specific spare channel - you can delete one, but the choice of which one gets deleted seems to be rather arbitrary.

You can emulate luminosity masks, in particular, by using the Blend Options dialog. You might want to look at some macros I posted several years back, namely:

Culling - FastRawViewer; Raw Developer - Capture One Pro; Asset Management - Photo Supreme

Please let me know if the macros work for you, @Bob Sanders. I'd enjoy your feedback.
