Art Shotwell
I'm new to Affinity Photo; in fact, trying out the trial. I've been using Photoshop Elements 13 and 10 and not really happy with PE13 (slow). For Web blog, I routinely use jpegs in 900x600 format. So, I will take a photo, either sent to me or shot with my Olympus Pen camera or iPhone6, open it in PE, crop to 6x4 aspect ratio, resize to 900x600 and export in low quality. When I try this in AP, I get strange looking images. So, I figure I must be missing something here. I'll try attaching 2 photos here... One an AP export, the other PE export. I've been increasingly interested in improving my personal photos. Using Mac Photos auto enhancements, I can improve them somewhat, but looking at doing more...Same for PE auto settings. I'd appreciate any suggestions...
Staff Leigh Posted December 2, 2015 Staff Share Posted December 2, 2015 Welcome to the forums Art Shotwell :) I've not been able to replicate this. Is it possible to attach a copy of the image to this thread? If not, you can PM me a dropbox link.
Art Shotwell
I attached two images to my original post. One from Affinity and one from Photoshop Express. I can see them in my OP. Can you???
Staff Leigh Posted December 4, 2015 Staff Share Posted December 4, 2015 I can see the exported images in your OP but I'm talking about the original image. The image you have opened into both apps to edit and then export :)
Art Shotwell
Here is the original file... And, I might add that when saving image files for the Web, I try to minimize file size without doing too much damage to the image.
Staff Leigh Posted December 7, 2015 Staff Share Posted December 7, 2015 Thanks for the image. When you're saving from PSE are you using File > Save or File > Export?
Art Shotwell
I use File> Save for Web...
Art Shotwell
Looks like I've reached a dead end on this... I just bought Affinity Photo. Guess I'll try to work through this somehow.
Staff Leigh Posted January 5, 2016 Staff Share Posted January 5, 2016 Sorry for not replying sooner. If you export the image to JPG with the quality set to 30 and Embed ICC profile un-ticked the image will look the same as the image exported from PSE with a similar file size. Art Shotwell
Many thanks... I'll try it. I've been struggling on how much to optimize jpegs for the Web. Google tells me my images are too large, but when I try to shrink them down for the Web, they don't look good. Thanks for your answer here...
