Mac update confusion about minimum OS requirements?

Recommended Posts

Before updating Affinity Photo (1.8) on my Mac Mini running MacOS El Capitan (10.11.6) I checked the minimum OS requirements, which says MacOS Mavericks (10.9). So I updated AP to version 1.10.1. But when AP's splash screen appeared upon launching the app, a message says, "Please upgrade to macOS Sierra (10.12) or newer."

What's going on? Version 1.8 of AP is now gone and I'm not sure if it's safe to run 1.10.1. If it's not safe, what is the latest version I can run on MacOS 10.11.6 and where can I download it from? Did I just brick the Affinity Photo app on my Mac?

That message was probably not with the splash screen, but when the program wanted you to perform the optional Registration step, which allows you to synchronize content such as brushes, assets, etc. that you've purchased (or gotten free) from the Affinity Store to your application. The Registration function requires the higher level of macOS, as it uses functions only supported in that level. But as it's optional, you can simply ignore the message.

Thanks Walt. What a relief. Once I closed the "registration window" the regular splash screen was hiding behind it. FAQ was helpful.
