Hello! Same issue here. After installing the last 2 versions I was experiencing some issues. First, I lost the brushes. Same with cropping presets. Worst is that it crashes any time when applying a simple adjusting layer or simply when zooming. It gets blocked and forced to close because of the Windows not respnding message. Any advise? Thank you!

Hi @Jallongos,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble! As the thread you had posted to was somewhat outdated (for a previous version) I have decided to 'split' your post to a new thread here. Please make sure you are Following this new thread if you want to be notified of replies here.

In regards to the issue you're having, can you please navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance and untick Hardware Acceleration from the bottom of this dialog.

Restart the app as prompted, then try editing your image/document once again - does this reduce the freezes/crashing you're seeing please? :)

Did you try restarting the computer and or force quit? It usually works. If not then try Uninstalling then re-install.

Let me know if it works 😀

Hi @BobZ6,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

I'd like to request some crash reports from yourself, to see if these contain any further information as to the cause of this.

Please press the Windows Key + R to launch the Run dialog and enter the relevant app path:

%AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\CrashReports\reports
%AppData%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports
%AppData%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\CrashReports\reports

Then attach the latest 2 .dmp files from this folder here. Many thanks in advance :)

Before I read your post, I uninstalled Affinity Photo, shut down the computer, Then I turned the computer on and installed a fresh copy.  I will follow your instructions if I have further crashes.  I checked the crash reports but they were all from March 2021. Till then Bob

Hi @BobZ6,

Thanks for the crash reports provided!

I can confirm that 2 of these reports are from 1.9.1, which is a considerably older version now - however 1 of these reports were from the latest version 1.10.1.

This crash report shows me that the app crashed whilst using the Mesh Warp tool, which isn't an issue I've seen happen previously.

Firstly, I'd recommend making sure your GPU drivers are fully up to date, you can find the latest drivers from the below link -

https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/driverResults.aspx/181104/en-uk

Secondly, is this crash something you can reproduce? .ie does this happen every time you follow certain steps, or does this only occur within one document for you?

Many thanks in advance once again :)

Hi Dan and thank you for your assistance. My Video game driver was a year old (I do not play games) but I updated it.  I love Affinity products and love the support provided.  I cannot produce the problem. It happens randomly and without warning. I have used the Warp mesh tool many times with no crash. I will send more reports if I have any future crashes.  Bob

Hi @Bryanoz,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

Can you please open the Affinity app, then navigate to Affinity Photo > Preferences > Performance and provide a screenshot of your settings here for me?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi Dan

here is the screenshot.

I did finish editing what I needed to do today.

I did the usual routine of quitting all unneeded programs.

As I was editing the 6mb images I was saving and flattening them after each function, ie Crop and straighten, SAVE, then adjust levels, SAVE, then Sharpen, then flatten and save.

worked ok.

cheers

Bryan

Many thanks for providing that for me, there's no settings here I'd recommend changing currently - so I'd like to see if any crash reports have been generated by the app to better understand the cause of the crashing you're experiencing.

Please go to Applications > Utilities and open the Console app. Crash Reports from our apps can be found in the User Reports section. You can Right Click the required Crash Report and select Reveal in Finder, then upload the latest 3 reports to your reply here.

Many thanks once again!

Hi Dan

I have only 2 Crash reports, they are attached, but it did happen 3 times.

oh, I see what was happening, the files  in question, 2-3 (Slides) had to be scanned by me, I was using one of those QPix scanners, and the tool to use Image Tool Scan, crashed as well. My normal scanning is usually via Affinity > Acquire Image

Could that have attributed to the Affinity crashes?

thanks

Bryan

Your crash reports show Affinity crashing when accessing pixel data - which certainly could be the slides you have scanned in.

If the Image Tool Scan is also crashing, this could indicate an issue with the scanning software/drivers. I'd recommend making sure that you have the latest compatible updates installed from the manufacturer of your scanner, to help reduce these issues.

What image format does your scanner create please? Are you able to control the format/image settings you create when scanning? Have you noticed similar crashing when editing documents/images that are no generated by this scanner? :)

Hi Dan

Thanks for your explanation, this scanner is one of these:

https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/qpix-film-scanner-fs-01-bcfs01

The only control is pressing a button, when the tool is open, and you save from there, rotating etc, it creates a 5mb jpg.

I use a Canon MFP Pixma MG 5700 for flatbed scans and Affinity Photo to acquire.

I have to say, I was trying to do these scans/ editing photos within a time frame and pressure, maybe I should just do one operation or the other.

not a normal day in that regard.

regards

Bryan

Thanks for the link provided, I've had a look for updated drivers but thus far I've been unable to locate any.

Hopefully this issue shouldn't occur again, but should you continue to have issues here please do let us know :)

Hi,

My crashing issue happens when I try to open more than 1 file at a time. I bulk edit photos and having to open them one at a time is super annoying and time consuming.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks!

Hi @el_sunny_ra,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Can you please navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance and untick Hardware Acceleration from the bottom of this dialog, restart the app as prompted and try editing your documents once again.

Does this stop the crashing behaviour please?
