Designer Divide Function Trouble

I'm following this YouTube tutorial and where he divides the two objects at the 6:00 minute mark he gets two distinct curves as where I wind up with three curves. The upper right curve is to be deleted but the bottom left shape is supposed to be one curve but I have two. I have no idea why this is happening. Any help would be appreciated.

FWIW, I am not sure I did everything exactly like in the video but after the divide step I get four shapes, as shown in Flame Gradient fail.afdesign.

It might help if the Layers panel was visible in the Video but I think part of it is the results depend on exactly how much the selected nodes are rounded using the Corner Tool & possibly that the shape retained in the video is actually a "(Curves)" layer (note the plural) consisting of two individual curves.
