Problems with Affinity Photo 1.9 crashing (split)

Recommended Posts

Yes, I have been pestered with Affinity PHOTO ever since the upgrade to version 1.9.1.

  • Version 1.9.0. worked just fine, it was quick to load and process whatever I needed to do, even on truly very large images.
  • Then came version 1.9.1. and I only used it twice, on both occasions extremely slow, never loaded a file properly, crashed all the time. I gave up.
  • Now version 1.9.2., same thing, it just doesn't work properly, it just crashes or the best it manages is to chew the fat for 20 minutes trying to open a miserably average size PNG file...

It's something to do with Affinity PHOTO, definitely. I use a plethora of editing software including video on my machine, without even a hint of an issue. I runs fast on everything else. Affinity PHOTO?!... Nope! It's a bit like a very slow funeral on a busy road! 😂

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Lewis GGVW.

It would help if you told us what OS you use, but given that you mentioned 1.9.2 but did not mention 1.9.3 I'll assume you're on Windows.

Check your Photo Preferences (Edit > Preferences). In the Performance section, near the bottom, is Hardware Acceleration (OpenCL) enabled? If so, disable it and see if that helps. If that helps, you probably have a problem with your graphics (GPU) drivers.
