Updated software crashes regularly

Recommended Posts

I was VERY excited to see the updates.  Patterns, especially, are a feature I've been missing for a long time.  Unfortunately, since I've updated my software, it crashes all. the. time.

Are others having this problem, or is it just me?

Having viewed older threads that asked for additional information, I've looked in the Crash Reports folder.  There are no reports; the folder is empty.  I haven't tried AD since the update, but AP crashes every time I move away to another program.  (e.g. if I want to copy some text out of a word processor document and come back to paste it into AP I can't.  As soon as I'm not actively in AP, it's pretty much guaranteed to crash.)  And it crashes frequently if I'm just inside the program working, too.  This is new; the program rarely crashed prior to the update.

I'm using Windows 10 on a laptop.  I just updated to 1.9.2, and I think it was 1.8.5 I was using before that.  (Might've been 1.8.2.  Sorry I didn't think to check before updating.)

Hi @a2jc4life,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the latest version!

Our latest update implemented OpenCL Hardware Acceleration to Windows, which utilises your Graphics Card to help render the Affinity document.
A few users are experiencing issues with this enabled, the number one cause of which is outdated Graphics Card drivers. Please visit the manufactures link below to download the latest driver available -

- Intel: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html
- Nvidia: https://www.geforce.com/drivers
- AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-driver-autodetect

Note: you may need to go direct to your PC manufactures website for the driver, if you see a warning regarding 'OEM drivers' when trying to install one from the above sites.

Once downloaded and installed, please restart your computer and then launch the Affinity app again. Hopefully the app should no longer crash for you.

Please do let me know how you get on here!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
