Palm detection error followed by application crash

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First of all, excuse my english, it's google translate! (i'm french)

I just received my new iPad pro 12,9 inches (2020) and apple pencil 2, 2 days ago.
I bought the iPad version of Affinity Designer yesterday. No other apps than Apple's have been added, so the installation is as minimalist as possible.
From the first use, I experience palm detection issues followed by an application crash.

The problem occurs very frequently (within 30 seconds).

I have reset the iPad and reinstalled Affinity Designer, the problem persists ...

Do you have any idea where the problem comes from?
I have a little video of the crash but I can't get the weight down below 4 MB.
Is it possible to post the dropbox hosting link without breaking the forum rules?

Thank you for your ideas, I despair! (as it is, impossible to work on the application)

———————
The software configuration is IOS 14.4.2 and Affinity Designer 1.9.2
I have already reinstalled affinity designer 2 times without it fixing the problem.

Hi JeromeF,

I've created a link below that will allow you to upload it to our Internal Dropbox account. If you could upload the video that shows the steps you're taking to reproduce the crash (ideally showing the entire screen) and also the steps that show the palm rejection (which would be good if you could also show how your hand is positioned in it). If you could also attach any supporting files we may need to reproduce that would be helpful

When it crashes do you use a brush stabilizer at all?

Hello Sean P, and thank you for your response.

I just uploaded the video to your dropbox. This shows the palm detection error at 20 seconds and you can see how the hand is positioned (nothing exotic, I'm just drawing).

I don't know what I could record the screen with other than my phone, but the framing allows you to see the whole screen.

The problem occurs on a document that has just been created (A4 / 300 dpi / Fogra 29 / white canvas).

I switch to pixel persona and start drawing with the default brush, without a stabilizer.

At this point, therefore, no layer is created, and I realize the palm error when I see the assistant's message in the center of the screen informing me that a layer has just been created. I delete it, put my hand back and the app crashes. It's not systematic, but enough to be able to film it in 30 seconds of trying ...

Cool! (I never thought that one day I would be happy about a bug ...)

So will this be part of an upcoming major application update or is a micro patch possible soon?
Can you tell me which point in my sequence is problematic? (that I can change it to another and thus not have the crash)

I look forward to hearing from you.
In any case, a big thank you for your responsiveness!

Unfortunately I'm unable to answer these questions. We just reproduce and pass the issues along to development. At this point the issue has been logged with development to investigate and prioritize as appropriate.
