mask layers / groups / blend modes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have several questions to

@James Ritson

  1. Can you please explain the blend modes for mask layers? I was unable to spot any function / difference of blend modes on mask layers, e.g. "add" behaves exacly as "normal". Two maks will always subtract (hide more), never add (show more).
  2. Is there any simple solution to combine a mask (additive) from two or more parts (as it is possible with compound vector shapes)?
    1. My workarounds is either grouping layers, but then facing issue no. 4 below, or workaround by create channel / load channel (destructive)
  3. How to combine two mask layers in additive way (smilar to blend mode normal on pixle layers)?
    1. e.g. you have a portrait and use a "refine selection" for the head and hair, and a vector shape for the body (hard edges, no fringing)?
  4. Whenever you are using a group for masking, all sublayers become instantly hidden, making it impossible to adjust sublayers (like curves). Only if you have a sublayer opened while moving the group, you can continue to adjust adjustment / filters. This is a severe limitation.

Looking forwar to you answer.

My posts focus on technical aspects and leave out most of social grease like „maybe“, „in my opinion“, „I might be wrong“ etc. just add copy/paste all these softeners from this signature to make reading more comfortable for you. Otherwise I’m a fine person which respects you and everyone and wants to be respected.
