Opening Large Jpeg never completes

Recommended Posts

This occurred on 1.8 as well.  I have had several large JPEGS (9-10MB) that stay in the "Loading 1 document" (status) bar forever when trying to open them.   They will open almost immediately in Designer so it leads me to believe there is an issue in Photo regarding large JPEGS.

The app doesn't allow me to exit either when it is in this state.

Screenshot 1: After 5 minutes, still says loading document.  Laptop with 16GB ram and this is the only application running. I can let this go 10+ minutes and it never opens.

Screenshot 2: Trying to exit. I can only kill the app to exit.

Screenshot 3: Opens immediately in Designer (still waiting for Photo to complete after ten minutes);

Welcome to the Affinity forums @lucuma!

9 to 10 MB I would not call large and AP should work with this easily. Do you have a sample JPEG you can upload? And please upload as a ZIP, because the forum software will alter the original image while uploading.

Thanks for your file, which loads in about 1-2 seconds. But for some reason, the loading is significantly slower when hardware acceleration is turned on in Preferences >> Performance. Turn off HWA and try again it this preference is enabled for you. Or else try the latest beta.
