C. Nelson
Having issues when trying to paste. I first make a marquee selection in a photo, long tap with one finger, select copy, long tap with one finger, select paste, and it pastes the whole image in another layer. It does not paste what I had selected. Even if I take that same selection and inverse it and select cut, it cuts the whole picture. It’s as if it doesn’t know I have a selection. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a long, long time and now I’ve just given up. Please help. GanjaDesigner

You will need to rasterise the layer first so that it becomes a pixel layer.🙂 Paul Mudditt 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). C. Nelson
Thank you DM1, I really appreciate it. I found the rasterize function and now it worked. This does confuse me and maybe you can explain since I am new to this program. The thing that’s confusing to me is, I’ve been creating graphics since 1992 and have always understood that there’s Vector and Rasterized images. One is mathematical and can be scaled infinitely, and the other is pixel based. So when something is labeled “image” layer, and not “vector” layer, my brain automatically identifies it as rasterized. So why is it that apparently each time I take in a photograph (rasterized image), that I still have to “rasterize” it again before I can cut, copy, or past a selection of it? Seems like an unnecessary step that hinders the workflow. Also, are there any places that have good tutorials? I tried using the help section and searched “copy and paste” and this wasn’t mentioned. And a lot of the tutorials on YouTube are years old or they cover the super basic steps. So basic, that they don’t cover what you just taught me. I’m so used to Photoshop, but I need to be done with Adobe. GanjaDesigner
DM1
Affinity has a good range of tutorials on the forum or try Googling. Affinity Resolution is another good source. It’s not a good idea to try and draw too many comparisons between AP and PS they operate in different ways.AP is a 'non destructive' editing app and edits/adjustments/masks etc are applied quite differently (as you will find 😁). From the help file: If you copy images from Internet web pages or capture a screenshot to clipboard (e.g., using Apple's Screenshot app), the new document creates an image layer, not a pixel layer, from the copied data. The advantage being that the layer is non-destructive, i.e. it avoids rasterisation and loss of the image's original resolution and colour space. You can still manually rasterise from the Layers Studio. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). C. Nelson
Thanks again DM1. Of course I searched Google and I am familiar with Affinity Revolution, but haven’t looked at the Forums yet. This is why I asked for a good resource. I haven’t been too impress so far and like I said, a lot of it is outdated. But I guess I will continue to search and figure this program out. 👍🏼
