Raster brush error - pixelated image artifact

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you for reading this post.

I discovered Affinity Designer some days ago, and I started learning this software with a trial account. I'm on Mac.

I'm having issue with the raster layers. The issue is unpredictable and unreproducible; sometimes, when I select a raster brush, sometimes a terrible artifact appears. The only way to restore the file is to close and then reopen the software.

Is there a way to fix it? I need to go back to work :) Thanks a lot!

Hi lolah,

Unfortunately this looks like some form of graphical corruption that is happening with your hardware. What Mac are you using and what is the specs of it? Is it limited to just this document or does it happen on a brand new document after a short amount of painting?

If it is just this document do you mind attaching it please? Could you also attach a screenshot of Preferences > Performance please?

Hi Sean,

Thanks a lot for your answer! In these days, after what happened using Affinity, I have to say that I was afraid something was happening to my hardware - so, I started avoiding using Affinity, which I had the impression used a lot of my hardware's resources.

These are my Mac's specs:

The problem appeared with a very "light" project, which I'm attaching here. As I said, the problem is unpredictable, so it happens even in new document after some paintings - but I can't say  if it is "a short amount or not". I'm also attaching the file  where I first encountered the problem.

I stopped having graphic artifact - which also caused a slow-down in performance, and needed a computer reboot - since I stopped using Affinity.

Here's the Affinity preferences:

All your suggestions are welcome, since I really love this software and I would like to be able to use it again!

Thanks for that - would you be able to try setting the Visualizza to OpenGL. If that is still causing issues try unticking 'Abilita calcolo accelerazlone Metal' and see if that helps prevent the issues you're seeing.
