Change the number of columns in all text frames simultaneously

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have recently design a book for a client using a 2 layout column in 95% of the pages inside the document.

We have decided to redesign the whole layout of the book (we are talking about around 1000 pages) into a single column layout.

I am aware this might be a long shot, but is there a way I can select all text frames inside the file and switch the column number to be just 1?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Ideally you would have used a Master Page to design your book, and placed the basic Text Frame on that Master, and set the number of columns there. And in that case you would just adjust the Master Page, and the document pages would adjust automatically.

If you didn't do that, then I do not know of any way other than doing it individually for each page, or using copy/paste into a new document.

Note that for linked text frames you can put the cursor in the first frame and use Ctrl+A to select all the text. Then in your new document, create the Master, add a text frame to it and create 1 document page. Then paste the text into that document page text frame, and Shift+Click on the red linking triangle at the lower-right of the frame. Publisher will then create as many pages as needed to hold all the pasted text.

(Also note: if you are using a Facing Page layout, create a text frame on the left side of the Master, then create a text frame on the right side, and link them. Then when you use Shift+Click to create the necessary additional pages they will all be linked properly.)
