jweitzel
Since five days I'm holding the "Affinity Publisher Work Book" (German edition) in my hands. And I had to avoid using the noun "Praise" in the title of that thread in order not to be over enthusiastic. As I got the parcel with that voluminous heavy book, translated and typeset carefully in correct language and in a professional manner, printed and bound (!) in very good quality – I realized: My fears, that the Affinity triology may earlier or later vanish again from that Adobe-dominated market are absolutely ill-founded, without substance. Even more: The market of desktop publishing is not any longer dominated by a single company ... There is a full-fledged alternative for us, for not to say the Affinity triology IS the real alternative ... With publishing this work book as the last out of three books, so I want to say, Serif has prooved, that they have gained secure ground under their feet, so that I myself can look with confidence in my own desktop publishing future ... I'm enthusiastic and happy. Congrats Affinity and translation team! There will be errors and bugs in the book and in the softwares. It would be overconfident not to assuming that. But now the time has come to got to learn the "other thinking", the other solutions and other menue structures of Affinity. That woun't be easy for die-hard desktop publishers Best wishes to all! Stay well Johannes (PS: I'm not in any way affiliated with that company. I'm looking back on 30 years desktop publishing and I have seen "empires arising and going down". I think I know what about I'm speaking.) jmwellborn and GarryP
John800
Good for you, Johannes. I'm happy for you, because I guess you are German. I too have received the German edition. Trouble is, I'm English, living in England, and don't speak a word of your wonderful language beyond counting to six (and I'm not too sure about that, either). I've emailed Affinity orders about this, and received a reply on 2nd January asking me to be patient because they were five working days behind with replies. But it's now 12th Jan and I'm wondering what to do. Affinity - every sympathy because you are probably struggling with the Covid crisis, like the rest of us. But I'm guessing I'm not the only customer who's received the wrong version. Why don't you put something on the website, or this forum, perhaps giving us a link to a returns label so we can send the book back. I've carefully not removed the shrink wrap - I can tell from the cover it's in German. So it's easy enough to return it. Just need a little help here. Best wishes, John
