Help Files for TOC are Incomplete

Recommended Posts

I've read through the Help File page on creating and styling a TOC in Publisher. I've also watched the video tutorial. Still, I find the information to be incomplete.

Please revisit the Help Files and the video tutorials to clarify how one is to make use of and manage the special TOC paragraph and character styles (e.g., how one goes about applying one style to a chapter title, and another to the corresponding page number), and to demonstrate how one can build TOC's for publications that do have more than one TOC.

It's very frustrating to receive just half of the information required to understand the feature completely.

In case you're still looking for the answers...

For that one, the entry will have a text style like "TOC 1: Heading 1" and the number will have a text style like "TOC 1: Number". With the text cursor in the TOC those styles will be visible in the Text Styles panel and you simply edit them there.

Make sure that the different partss of the publication use different text styles for the items that need to be in the TOC. Then:

  1. For the each part/TOC, choose the appropriate text styles to include when setting up the TOC using the TOC panel.
  2. If the entry styling needs to be different for each TOC, also use the Preference/burger menu next to the TOC Style name and create a new TOC style, e.g. TOC 2.
