jess.moon
I can't get the Clone Tool to work. I am pressing option (alt) on the area I want to clone, then drawing the black cross to the area that needs to be covered. return doesn't apply the clone, command doesn't , and I can't figure out how to apply the clone. It's not working. What am I doing wrong here? Or is the program faulty? I was super excited about this program, but now I regret wasting my money on it bc it's not user friendly and LR and Photoshop actually works. NONE of the functions work in Affinity photo and I'm very disappointed. Please tell me that I didn't just waste my money!
Staff MEB Posted August 23, 2015 Staff Share Posted August 23, 2015 Hi jess.moon, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) To use the Clone Tool, make sure sure that the correct pixel layer is selected, then press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) and click on the area you want to clone from (the source area). This will leave a small cross there so you can follow from where the tool will be cloning from. Now release the ⌥ (option/alt) key and start painting over the area you want to correct. The cursor will change to a small preview (taken from the source area defined previously), so you can see what will be painted before you start painting with it. Click and drag to paint/correct the area. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
jess.moon
I do these steps and clone tool is still not working. Initially when I purchased the program it wasn't working then I restarted my computer and it started working and I used it to edit 100+ photos. It was working fine yesterday, but all day today, it has stopped working. Affinity Photo froze up and I couldn't even exit the program so I unplugged my computer and restarted it. My computer said Safari wouldn't restart the computer when I tried to restart from the apple menu. Finally after I unplugged the computer and re-started it Affinity Photo wasn't frozen any more and I uploaded a new photo. I still can't clone and now it's not just the clone tool, it's all of the tools. None of the tools do anything. I can't edit anything in this program and I am so behind in my work because of it. Is there anything else I need to try?
Rodney
I don't if this will help now, but in future when a program freezes use the kill keystrokes - Command+Option+Escape from anywhere to bring up the simple “Force Quit Applications” window, then click on the app name to select, followed by clicking the “Force Quit” button, this will end the app immediately. Don't just unplug your Mac, do the above and if need be use re-start or shutdown.
