supertramp
Hey everyone, i have a huge problem with Affinity Publisher but also Affinity Photo after updating both to the newest Version. Both applications are very laggy and crash from time to time or the whole system freezes (OSX System). I found out that in some cases the applications have a problem with .tiff Files, so i removed them, but the problem still exist. After the updates to the newest Versions i can´t work properly with this issue. Does anyone have the same problem. Best regards Daniel
Staff Gabe Posted September 24, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 24, 2020 Hi @supertramp, We would not be able to crash/freeze your macOS system. If that's what's going on, there's most likely a system/hardware issue. If it's the app that's crashing, can you attach a crash report? You can find them in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
supertramp
Hi Gabe, here´s the last report from my crash today on Affinity Photo. Thank you for your help Affinity Photo_2020-09-24-115624_Hermanns-MacBook-Air.wakeups_resource.diag
Staff Gabe Posted September 24, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 24, 2020 This is not a crash report, but a wakeup_resoruce diag. The crash report should be ending in .crash (e.g Affinity Publisher Beta_2020-09-24-085637_iMac.crash)
supertramp
There are no crash files, only Kernel Files with .gpuRestart. After that Kernel process where the coloured Wheel spins the complete System freezes and i have to press the power button to restart the whole system. I found out, that this issue happens on my Macbook Air with Mojave, as well with my Macbook Pro with Yosemite after updating to the newer Affinity Apps. Beforehand i had no Problems with both and even on my less powerful macbook air, the applications were working fluetly. One week ago i installed Affninity Photo again after removing the application from my harddrive, but with no change.

They don't run at a Kernel level, but at a user level. So if they crash, they can't take the whole system with them. Perhaps a conflict with a driver/other app that you have on both? Try creating a new user account(or guest) on both and see if they are fine. 1.8.4 has been out since August 3rd and not had any other similar reports, so it must be something specific to your PC. Have you just recently update it? You could try running https://www.etrecheck.com and see if it flags something up. I have had quite a few Panic Kernels recently, all caused by Parallels. Is this something you have running?
supertramp
Thank you for your feedback. I will create a new user and see, if the problem still occurs. Maybes something happened with my system after i loaded the update of both apps. Sometimes it´s like finding a needle in a haystack.
supertramp
One further question. Does Affinity Apps make use of the dedicated gpu from my mac? The Macbook Air has only an intel chip with low ram. Maybe that could cause the issue, too. I am looking forward to buy a new mac, but if the apps make use of a gpu i will better buy an imac with dedicated gpu, than a mac mini. Staff Gabe Posted September 25, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 25, 2020 Yes, we do have Metal Compute acceleration (toggle in Preferences > Performance) which makes use of your gpu.
