aspqrz Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I've just completed a huge project on Serif Pageplus and want to start the next one on Affinity Publisher, which I bought a couple of months ago. In the PagePlus project I had mirrored Master Pages and each 'side' had mirrored Guides to make setting up text boxes and graphic elements easier. A doddle to set up. However, try as I might, while I can set up different Master Pages in Affinity Publisher, I cannot set up mirrored ones (i.e. Left/Right) ... and I really do not want to use a two page spread ... even if I create two pages and try to set up mirrored guides to make them, effectively, Left/Right, for some reason the Guides simply set the same for ALL Master Pages, you cannot, it seems, set them to be different on each one as needed. Or not as far as I can work out! Is this no longer possible? It's darn annoying if so! Or am I missing something blindingly obvious (always likely). Thanks for any assistance, Phil McGregor Quote
Old Bruce Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Hi and welcome to the forums @aspqrz, Make two Master Pages, Left and Right set the guides up on Left and use some rectangles to use a guides for the guides. Copy the rectangles and paste them on the Right master page and move them to the opposite/mirrored positions and then put some guides on the Right page. Delete all the rectangles. Apply the Left Master Page to the left pages and the Right Master Page to the right pages. Personally I find using Facing pages a real boon in that I do not have to apply separate master pages to every other page. aspqrz Posted May 31, 2020 Author Posted May 31, 2020 Sorry, I'm still missing something. I can set up two Master Pages called Left and Right, and I can put Guides on the Left Page ... which are then automatically duplicated on the Right Page and, indeed on any other Master Page I create. There seems to be no way that I can see to set Guides differently for each Master Page. This is a bigger problem than me not wanting to use a Facing Master Page, it means that, effectively, Guides are useless as they will be the same for all Master Pages once set for any Master Page. Unless I am missing something so basic I cannot see it. Phil McGregor Quote
Old Bruce Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I don't know what is happening for you but I can do what you want Untitled.afpub The only thing I can think of is you may be using the duplicate command for making your masters instead of the new command. aspqrz Posted June 1, 2020 Author Posted June 1, 2020 The Untitled file was perfect ... I dunno what I was doing wrong before, but I simply modified it to get the effect that I wanted. It may well be that I was using the Duplicate command. Darn and blast ... learning a new program is a pain ... especially since I had been using PagePlus since it was in low single digits! THANKS! What is the ‘new command’? I can’t see any effective way to set up Mirror pages. I really don’t want to wade through 300+ pages doing Apply to left and right facing pages. Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. New as in make a New Master instead of Duplicate an existing Master Edit: Mirror Pages may be achieved by setting up a Facing Pages document instead of Single Pages. then you have 150 2 page speeds instead of 300 single pages.
