X33134 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 (edited) Hi, thanks for reading my post. I'm coming from Adobe Illustrator and in that application you get an immediate line preview when using the Pen Tool, so that you see what you get before clicking to make a new point. The behavior I'm looking for in Affinity Designer, in a way, is when you hold Shift (Mac), you get to see the line before making the point, but that locks you into 45 degree lines. It's a lot closer to what I'm looking for if I hold Ctrl (Mac), Left click and hold while dragging the new point to desired place, but that's a bit of a convoluted maneuver to arrive at something that I could get for free, like in Illustrator. I have of course looked around all over in the Designer settings menus but couldn't find any setting for this. Also tried searching online without any luck. I also purchased the Designer Workbook but there was no information about settings for the Pen Tool. Thanks, regards / X Edited May 17, 2020 by X33134 Quote
Gear maker Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Try turning on the Rubber Band Mode icon in the pen tool. Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra
CodyHill Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I am not sure if I understand your question correctly but if you wan to see the preview line when using pen tool you need to click on an icon called ROBBER BAND MODE in tool bar setings. Quote

Yea, that was it, somehow I missed that when clicking all the switches in the tool bar. Thank you. CodyHill 1 Quote
Gear maker Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 You are welcome. I find that turning on the Rubber Band Mode also helps me when I am drawing several open curves. It gives me a visual indicator if I have not pressed escape to end one curve before drawing the next. I wish I could have it on as the default, but I haven't found that option.
