zaruss Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 OS X Catalina 10.15.4 Affinity Designer 1.8.3 does not recognize pdf document produced by TeX. The pdf is correctly displayed by Apple Aperçu (I dont know the english name) and Adobe Acrobat Reader but Affinity complains that the fonts are missing. Quote
Staff Sean P Posted April 29, 2020 Staff Posted April 29, 2020 Hi zaruss, Do you have these fonts installed on your machine? If a font is embedded in a PDF, we cannot display it with that font after import unless you also have the font installed. Quote
zaruss Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Hi Sean, Some are from the System, others no. My test file have 3 lines : — the first one is an System OpenType font : Charis SIL ; — the second one is a System PostScript font : Alegreya ; — the last one is a math formula in CMR fonts. The second line is composed with private TeX Alegreya font. 1/ The pdf is correctly displayed by Apple Preview and Acrobat Pro even when these fonts are not installed in the System. 2/ Illustrator CS6 + El Capitan (OS X 10.11.6 without these three fonts) does not recognize Charis, vectorize correctly Allegreya et does not recognize CMR fonts (see above). Why this difference of behavior between Affinity and Apple Preview + Acrobat ? If necessary, I can send you the pdf file (32 Ko). Quote

Why this difference of behavior between Affinity and Apple Preview + Acrobat ? This is because we currently don't support the loading of fonts embedded in the PDF where as Acrobat does and Apple Preview (displaying of the font only) does. One of the issues is that many times fonts are subset and don't contain all the characters. One of the main issues is if you want to edit text with these fonts - as the font is subset all the characters are not there so causes issues with what can and cannot be typed. With that said I believe it is something we do want to add, but is not currently a feature. Quote
