Nikander
Hi, Publisher becomes extremely slow when handling external pdfs of multiple pages. Slow means waiting literaly an hour to select an item on a 2017 imac. Is there some setting to handle external pdf's more inteligently? (I use prefer linked) Layouting miltiple vector heavy pdfs is a key part of my workflow. Help?!

wonderings
I wonder if there is some really complex stuff in the vector artwork in the PDF that it is processing. As all the Affinity apps are, they are generally very snappy and quick to load. There are many, many issues with Publisher and it handling PDF's. If your workflow needs you to be able to place PDF's in Publisher without changing anything I would stop using Publisher as it tries to make every PDF an editable file. It will not use embedded fonts in the PDF and you will have a huge mess on your hand as you go through the placed PDF and look for each error and begin fixing it. Publisher is not ready for pro work because of this "feature".
MPOK
On InDesign you can choose low res. InDesign is fast, Publisher is unusable super slow. It is not the file sie, it is the software. I can not work with a normal PDF produced from acad.
