Darren Rose Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Hi For some reason when I open some PSD files in Designer I cannot see the separate layers etc in the file to edit them, it just seems to import/open as static image? Quote
Staff MEB Posted March 25, 2020 Staff Posted March 25, 2020 Hi Darren Rose, Welcome to Affinity Forums Have you enabled Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap and Import PSD smart objects where possible in the Preferences, General section? If it still fails importing the PSD correctly do you mind attaching it/or share it with us? I can provide an upload link if you wish to keep the file private or if it's too big. Darren Rose Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Hi, thanks for reply Just tried that and same problem. Could it be perhaps the person who supplied the PSD files to me as chosen not to export the layers or something? Would prefer an upload link if you could check them out, but I do wonder if the problem is the person who supplied them as found another PSD file which opens and shows layers fine Quote
Staff MEB Posted March 25, 2020 Staff Posted March 25, 2020 Hi Darren Rose, Yes, the file could have been flatten so it has only one layer. Without checking the PSD there's no way to know. I'm preparing an upload link - give me a few moments. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Staff MEB Posted March 25, 2020 Staff Posted March 25, 2020 Here's the upload link. Thanks for your support. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Staff MEB Posted March 26, 2020 Staff Posted March 26, 2020 Hi Darren Rose, Thanks for the files. Both are being imported correctly for me with the exact same layers as in Photoshop except the clipping paths (Paths panel in Photoshop) which we currently don't support. The Zulfidesain.psd file only has two layers labelled "background" and "group 3" (which is NOT an actual group in Photoshop but a flatten layer as displayed in Affinity Designer). This file also has a clipping path (Paths panel in Photoshop) which is we do NOT import/support. The Profkarikatur.psd has nine layers - see screenshot below for reference (Affinity Designer on left/Photoshop on right) - all imported correctly. It also has a path in Paths panel (Photoshop) which we do not import/support. Is this what you are seeing when you open the files? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Darren Rose Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 Okay thank you very much for checking, it seems that despite my request when paying for the designs they have provided them flattened, or at least not with all separate layers for me to edit. Thanks again Quote
Staff MEB Posted March 26, 2020 Staff Posted March 26, 2020 The objects and subject (man) are all in separate layers but each one is not separated in their smaller components (if that's what you meant). For example you can't edit the glasses in the caricature layer as a single object/layer unless you cut them out. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Darren Rose Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 yes that is exactly the problem, when ordering I had stipulated I wanted layers or vector source so each single part was editable. Anyway I know now so I can go back and query it Thanks Quote
