Hey there! My name is Nicolas and I'm writing about a bug that have been quite annoying while working with Affinity Designer App. The thing is, each time I use the writing tool or interact with words, the app crash.

I have tested without using the writing tool, and works perfectly, but in the moment I try to write something (even when adding project name while exporting) it crash again.

Also I have tried turning words to curves, and with that it works well, its seems it only appear when using the writing tool or interact with it. I have deleted all the fonts I installed and reinstalled the app but yet no solution to the problem.

I'm using a new gen Ipad Pro 11", version IOS 13.3.1 and the designer app is the 1.8.0.

Hi NiMasera,

Are you able to get a screen recording that demonstrates the issues you're having please, and what you're doing in the application to reproduce the issue.

Have you installed any additional fonts on your iPad? Have you installed any within our application (using the Preferences screen)? If so what fonts have you installed? Have you used any other apps or methods to install fonts on to your iPad?

I think I have the same - or at least a similar - issue using the latest version of Designer on iPad Pro 12.9" 2019. I cannot reproduce reliably, but the app crashes all few minutes when working with text, may it be typing or changing properties. It seems not to happen right away when the app has been restarted. I initially thought it might be related to the font I added (Inter, https://rsms.me/inter/), however, after removing the font from the app, from all files and even after re-installing the app, the issue persists. It also happens with any file, old or new; just created a new one, selected the text tool, started typing and it crashed right away. I hardly used the app last year, so I don't know if that is a regression from a previous version. Settings are mostly the factory ones; I disabled screen caching for testing, didn't help though.

 

Unfortunately, this renders the app nearly unusable since unreliable for me. Let me know what else I can do to support you.

I’ve had the same problem the entire time I’ve had the app. I keep returning to is, hoping the problem would be resolved.  I’ve don’t all the usual things, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, hard reset on my device, turned off and back on, etc., etc..
