WAYNE76
Could some kind person help a complete newbie to this intriguing world of photo processing. I have used i-photo and just used the simple enhancement , exposure, contrast definition, highlights and shadows etc which I have found easy but this move to Affinity leaves me quite flabbergasted at the program. Can someone help me with the following questions. 1. Can you drag and drop more than 1 photo at a time. 2. Can you have Affinity working with i-photo in the background. 3. Simple steps to enhance , exposure, definition etc. 4. After processing how do I return the photo to i-photo? Would really appreciate someone helping out this complete challenged newbie. Thanks Wayne ingridw
My Strawberry Monkey
Hi Wayne, 1. Yes, they will open up in their own tabs. 2. Yes 3. Here are some tutorials, Chapter 7 will help you get up to speed with this https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10119-in-house-affinity-photo-video-tutorials/ 4. in iPhoto go to the menu bar and choose iPhoto - Preferences - Advanced - Edit photos and choose Affinity photo, when you select your pic from iPhoto and click the edit button it will open up in Affinity photo and save back any changes you make. Have fun and enjoy. Allan ingridw and WAYNE76 2 Quote About me: Trainer at Apple, Freelance Video Editor, Motion Graphics Artist, Website Designer, Photographer. Yes I like creating things!!! WAYNE76
Hi Allan, Thanks for your info regarding this great program, although its going to take me quite some time to be efficient with it. I can see it has great potential for making ordinary photos great. I have a Sony A7 camera and would like to experiment with raw photograph now as it captures far more detail. I haven't tried it before as I only had i-photo and no program like lightroom etc. Thanks once again. Best Regards Wayne
profiler
Hi Allan, Is it possible to have AP working with Aperture? At the moment I have all my photos stored in the Aperture Library which I like the way it displays versions of a photo, so I can see how my edits progress. If AP won't work with Aperture, can you recommend a library/software package that would work similar to Aperture. Many thanks, Derek
My Strawberry Monkey
Hi Wayne, No problem. Hope you'll love it a much as I do. Yes, it does indeed. iPhoto was a great start for those who wanted to get in to Photo Editing. Affinity Photo does allow a lot more control and has many more features. One feature that I liked in iPhoto was the blemish removal tool, well now Affinity Photo has that but also the inpainting brush which allows for removal of people, animals, cables, etc. Have fun. My Strawberry Monkey
Hi Derek, Not used that one for a while so had to open back up just to make sure. In Aperture in the menu bar go to Aperture - Preferences - Export - External Photo Editor and choose Affinity Photo and choose your file format and colour space, for more info on colour space I would suggest a google search or use the help menu in Aperture and Affinity photo, personally I would choose - Tiff 8bit and ProPhoto RGB for the colour space. Hope this helps. Allan Quote About me: Trainer at Apple, Freelance Video Editor, Motion Graphics Artist, Website Designer, Photographer. Yes I like creating things!!! profiler
Hi Allan, Thanks for your reply. Following instructions, using AP as an external editor, can't save back into Aperture from AP. It wants to save into my 'pictures' folder Many thanks, Derek
My Strawberry Monkey
Hi Derek, I have tried and it works. Probably the way you have Aperture set up. Aperture uses a library to store all your pics. So have a look in your Aperture preferences under General to see where they are stored. In Aperture you have to right click on your picture and choose to edit with Affinity Photo it then sends that over to Aperture and once done editing, chose save/save flattened and it will save it back to Aperture. profiler
Hi Allen, I have Aperture set as your screen shoots, but after editing in AP click on save and it wants to save in my 'pictures' folder. I do not get your 3rd screen shot with an option to flatten. Many thanks, Derek

JimGoshorn
Hi Allan, When using ProPhoto, it is recommended to use it in 16 bit to avoid possible posterization. 8 bit only gives you 256 shades whereas 16 bit gives you 65536 so it is much more forgiving if you need to make more extensive adjustments. Here's an article in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProPhoto_RGB_color_space My Strawberry Monkey
