Sorry probably very basic question but had a look around and can't seem to find it.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
I don’t have a lot of time to answer at the moment but my attached screen-grab gives one solution using a Table, but there will be others depending on your exact requirements. If you can say what you want to do with the grid we can give more solutions.

Drawing a line with the pen tool, setting the stroke to your preferred width changing the style to dashed line and using the settings in the image will get you a dotted line.

Then just duplicate the line Press CMD (⌘) + J on Mac, Ctrl (⌃) + J On Windows), move it a set amount in the transform panel and then duplicate repeatedly until you have the amount of lines you want.

When the first entry in the Dash formula is set to 0 it will make the dot circular if using round or butt cap style, using the square cap style will change the dot to a square.

Someone asked about this sort of thing a little while back and there’s a thread somewhere that gave lots of different techniques with, as far as I can remember, arguments for and against each in different situations. Hopefully someone can find it – I couldn’t – and post it here so people might be able to find it easier (more links between similar threads).
In the meantime, here’s a link to a similar thing which some people might find useful: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/98993-ruled-text-fields-affinity-publisher/
