Publisher reacts very slowly, lags, crashes

Recommended Posts

I have just started work on my new book. It currently contains around 75 pages of text only. I started by assigning styles to my text elements and started to change thos styles.

Now the software keeps crashing or just not reacting. For example I am trying to change a heading style (flow, keep x lines together). After changing this I can not save the file (the option is greyed out) and the preview column on the left no longer reponds if I want to navigate to a specific page.

At this point Publisher might crash or not.

This is unacceptable, I need to get this book done.

Please let me know hof to fix this or how to generate a log-file.

Could you upload a copy of the file here please.

If you look in your appdata folder there will be a folder of crash reports. If you could zip those up and upload them as well that will help me investigate the problem. The location is here %appdata%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\CrashReports.

Things that can help improve performance include :-

  • Disable basline Grids
  • Hide Pages Panel
  • Break up long text flows into different sections

Thank you for your reply. I have uploaded the files.

The machine is a

Win10 Home 64Bit - i3-8300K@3.7GHz - 24GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050Ti 4GB, "Studio" driver 431.86
- C: Drive 124 GB SSD - Project/Cache Drive 380 GB SSD

Breaking up long text flows into different sections... I can only do that up to a point at which I'm probably better off not using a computer anymore. Let's hope there is an easy fix to this problem. I made my previous book (over 200 pages including photos) with PagePlus and it worked just great - not a single crash or performance issue - on a slower machine.
