  1. Two photos reworked to black and white because the color renditions were affected by the haze present the day the photos were shot.
  2. just a follow up. Since I had my external hard drive files backed up, I went ahead and reformatted the drive to the new APFS format. That seems to take care of the problem.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I have tried to find support for the Hitachi on the web with no luck. I will be calling them when they open today. As far as formats, both are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled) with the Hitachi also stating 'case sensitive.' I will see if the hard drives will except new copying after they show a problem. Yes, I have used disk utility and also a right click for 'info'. Both show the drive capacity and what is in use, and that they are mounted. I have noticed with both drives, that they will not eject from desktop because the computer recognizes them as 'in use' after all of my photo applications are closed. I have to force eject or go to Utilities and unmount.
  4. I recently upgraded to High Sierra, and now when I use Affinity Photo the Hitachi external hard drive loses the photo files somehow. The file icon is on desktop but double-clicking it show and empty index page. Affinity will not export to the drive. A hard reset of the drive clears the problem. Apple support said it was the driver on the Hitachi drive ( as it is 8 years old). So I put in a GTechnologies drive in another USB port, and as I suspected both drives are 'frozen' in the same manner while I am just using Affinity Photo and the Hitachi drive. I am just wondering if anyone has had problems with High Sierra and external drives, or if there are any suggestions. This also happens when I use the new Apple Photo and then edit with Affinity Photo. My take is that Apple has an OS problem, but I thought I would check in the forum to see what others have experienced.

  6. I closed Affinity Photo and reopened it and now the Brush icon is on the screen and the watermark works fine. Thanks for the help.
  7. I found that the 'Brush Select' tool is the wrong tool. I can get the watermark to display on a photo with the Paint Mixer Brush but it won't set in place. There is no Brush tool as shown in the training video on Brushes. Any idea as to why that is. There is only the Brush Select and the Paint Mixer Brush icons and it is version 1.4.2?
  8. O.K. I am progressing. I found the Brush pallette in the upper right hand of the screen after I clicked the 'Brush Select' tool. I then created a new brush type called 'Image' and then created a new Image brush from my .png file. The .png file was a simple text of two words. As a brush it is the moving hash lines. So back to the drawing board regarding .png files. No offense, but Photoshop Elements is a lot easier to deal with regarding watermarks.
  9. I found the misspelling tool and deactivated it so now I just need to find the Pixel Persona. It is not listed in Help and I haven't found it in the Forum yet.
  10. Well. I started on your instructions and can't quite figure out where the Pixel Persona control is. Also, I am having a slight problem with my watermark. It is simply Briarvale Photo, and as you can see here the word Briarvale keeps getting underlined as , and I'm guessing, a misspelled word. How do I eliminate that?
  11. Once you have created a watermark can you save it or define it as a brush so that it can be used again on other photos?
  12. You were right in that I still had the beta version in Applications. So I did an uninstall and removed it. Now all the afphoto files state that "Affinity Photo' cannot be opened. Since I can still access the files from the opened app, I will try sometime to save new afphoto files and see what that does now that the beta version is gone. Thank you for your response.
  13. I have been using Affinity Photo since it came out in beta form. Currently I am using the purchased 1.4.1version. Now that I have afphoto files I notice that if I try to open a file directly by double clicking it I get a pop-up message that states I need a purchased version of Affinity Photo and then my computer automatically tries to engage the App store. These files were all saved while using version 1.4.1 so how do I get rid of the 'beta' tag or whatever is causing the problem? If I open the file through the open Affinity Photo app, then there is no problem.
  14. Well I answered my own questions. I found the original directions for conversion at https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/4822-manual-or-tutorial/and the reason the 'Help' conversion came out in German is that there is a seperate folder for English that has to get the 'index.html' file and drag it into the Calibre conversion program. The file is converted, but it is clunky and it really is easier just to open Photo and go directly to help and then read the actual HTML pages.
  15. Somewhere there are a set of questions and answers about making a manual using Photo's "de.iproj" and "shared" files, moving the "help.index" file into Calibre and converting it to a PDF file. I tried it with my purchased copy of Photo and got a PDF file written in German titled "Photo Hilfe." Why would that be?
