  1. Way back in V1, there was a bug, that PNG-export did not remember the area chosen (Whole document, Selection area, Selection only). Neither when coming back to the dialog and neither in a preset! I was told by a staff member, that this was indeed a bug and would be pushed to the top. Now we are at V2 and this bug still exists, despite the all new dialog. When will this finally be fixed? It's a real pain, exporting a number of PNGs this way. Reproduce: Export a PNG with any given settings and use "Selection only". Make it a preset. When you export your next image, all settings will be kept but the area. This is possible true for the other apps as well, but I mostly use Designer.
  2. I understand that. But a short heads up that they are still working on something would be very nice.
  3. Thank you, this version still shows only 1.5.5, but when I run it from my webserver it works at least. Have to check if the shortcuts shown are still accurate though.
  4. I realize this is an older thread but it would be such a great tool. Sadly, it's not working at all.I have the latest versions of all three programs, but all it gives me is this screen with Designer v 1.5.5 as the only option. Tried Chrome and FF, both are the same. Any ideas?
  5. I am a bit late to the party, but I can't believe this is still not solved? Exporting slices at the size of the cavas should be DEFAULT behaviour, not something we have to ask for? I have a number of images that I repositioned up and down on the canvas. Then i used the Crop-tool to bring the whole document to the desired size (or rather ratio) with each individual image covering the full canvas. When I create slices in the export persona, the crop is TOTALLY IGNORED and every exported image has a different size, with white bars on top or bottom. How could this be useful for ANYBODY? There is a reason I am cropping in the first place, why ignore it? Even worse, that this seems to be an open case for about 5 years? Please tell me i am missing something and there is already a sensible way to do this without workarounds? Or is there at least a way to make the crop permanent, like in PS? And for MULTIPLE layers, since Rasterise & Trim does not?
  6. Thanks Dan, hearing this makes me very happy!
  7. It must have been close to two years when I mentioned this first and I was told then it would be fixed soon. Yet here we are and export still sucks. I often have to export lots of single SVGs from a document. I have made a preset for that but it DOES NOT REMEMBER the area. I ALWAYS want "Selected Area" and everytime it jumps back to "Whole Document". Imagine exporting 50+ SVGs and EVERY time I have to change this. This sucks so much, how hard can it be to fix this already? Sorry for the rant, but I just wasted a lot of my time AGAIN doing this. This is clearly a bug, and a very annoying one too. Please fix!
  8. Thanks a lot everybody. Funny thing is, I never have even clicked on the Export Persona before. All exporting has been done only via the Export option in the main persona. It took me a second to figure it out from there, but yes, it works, and like a charm. Will do the whole thing in Designer now. You never stop learning.
  9. Hi, I need a to change set of ~45 images (diagrams) to four slightly different versions each and end up with 4 times 45 images (PNG) that need to be named to existing convention. the easiest way I can think of, create Artboards in Designer (or alternatively pages in Publisher) with one image each. Name those Artboards or Pages Make changes and export all at once while USING THE NAME of the Artboard/Layer AS FILENAME! I tried it with pages in Publisher first. Works in general, but the exported PNG all have given, incrementing filenames. Then I tried in Designer. It lets me only export ONE Artboard at a time (or ALL Artboards as a single image) and does NOT use the Artboard's name as filename. Is there any way to do this? Manually renaming later is not a good option. I may need multiple exports with changes and always renaming is not what I want. Ideas?
  10. Everything other than the pure sharpening I don't want to do anyway, especially not the tinkering with colors. I tried it on different photos yesterday. With high quality/high resolution photos it can give a really good effect. But it tends to emphasize JPG artifacts. On a highly compressed image, it will often look horrible. Anyway I find having multiple ways to do things is never wrong.
  11. Whoah, thank you very much. Your macro works beautifully and I shall try to recreate it.
  12. Thanks, that sortof, kindof works, though asolutely not intuitive. Still, I am not able to replicate the steps needed as a Macro. Can somebody please have a look and tell if it's even possible to record this?
  13. I watch a lot of videos about Graphics Design and Affinity. Often, there are some great tips to find, that only require a few steps. For those things, I'd like to record them as Macros. Just yesterday I found a new technique for sharpening that only requires a couple of steps. Wanted to make a Macro out of it, but no such luck. Changing between layers already gives error messages. Some could be solved by naming layers. But step 3 was to group two layers and Macros seem to not support that. It seems there is no way to record this very, VERY simple Macro. I wonder, why you even implemented Macros, when effectively they are useless? I still have my old Photoshop CS5. It's ELEVEN years old by now, but can record whatever I want to do without problems. Why is Affinity so far behind on this and are there (formulated) plans to fix this in the future?
  14. Usually they send Word-files in Unicode, which I copy/paste one by one word, sentence or paragraph. Veeery tiresome, but luckily there ist not an awful lot of text on most pages. Translation of the new website will follow early net year. I will try to convince the translators to use my online-interface for translations. If they don't, I can always export all text in a structured manner from the database. I wish it were that easy in Designer ...
  15. Thank you, that works. But only if I specifically choose PDF from the dropdown-box. Opening the same file without explicitly chosing PDF opens Draw. Very strange. That said, it works now like you said. Small problem though, text lines are still single objects. I believe this is carried over from the PDF. Is there a way to export to PDF, so the text-flow stays intact?
  16. Hey, cool tip, thank you. I am using Open Office and it does not seem to be able to do that. Got Libre Office now and it can open PDFs. For some reason, even if I open them inside LibreWriter, they open in LibreDraw. And from there I don't find a way to save as .doc However, "Preview in Browser" is a pretty good option. It gives more or less plain text. Do you know how to really open PDFs in WRITER instead of Draw and then export as .doc? EDIT: Draw treats every text line as a single object and as such "hardcodes" linebreaks. Preview in Browser gives lots of single paragraphs. I hope there's a way to really open it in Writer and treat it as a text document.
  17. To put things in perspective, the catalogues in question are 8, 12 and 16 pages. No need for database-driven content in this case (although it would be very nice to have it) Meanwhile, I got the quote from the translators. It seems, they will translate directly from the PDF. That's good in this case, but still I really need text-export of documents.
  18. You are right. This might have happened, because I exported those two pages as PDF, then reimportet and made the text changes. Actually, the layout should be very neat with textboxes where they make sense.
  19. I a perfect world, yes. For the very first edition of the catalogues, I get sent a variety of files, ranging from Word to Excel to PDF, along with the images. So there is no "single source" from the start. The oldest catalogue has been revised at least 6-7 times since it was first made and before the translation there will be more changes. All the changes happen directly in AP, it would really be overkill to make changes to some source files and then from there to AP.
  20. I've done translations to Czech before and it never was a problem. The translators send Word-files that must be UTF-8 or something. I can directly copy and paste it to either Publisher or Websites and it works perfectly. (When using it for a website, there's a conversion to HTML-entities happening in the background)
  21. Here is a sample of the typical layout, two facing pages. On other pages there might be lots of product images with very little text. catalogue_sample.afpub
  22. I am working with these translators for about 20 years now and I am very happy with their work. So I am definitely not changing firms. As PaoloT rightfully said, PDF is not an appreciated format. But there's an even bigger reason I need plain text. I can handle text in German, English and to an extend Spanish. But translations into languages I don't speak are a different animal. I need the source text structured in a way, so I can "blindly" copy and paste the translated text without having to be able to read it. Currently, the catalogues will be translated to Czech and Slovak too, and since I don't know the first thing about those languages, structured plain text is absolutely important. I would like to hear somebody "official" say something about this. In my mind, it should be really easy to export text and I wonder why it's not there already?
  23. Sounds good in theory, but does not really work. I tried. copy/pasteing from PDF to either a plain text editor or Wordpad/Word introduces weird characters and linebreaks. It's better to select from inside Publisher, but that's not only tiresome but also not working perfectly.
  24. Hi, I've had this problem a while ago and here it is again. In the past, I made a couple of catalogues for a client in APub. Now those catalogues need to be translated. Translator wants plain text or .doc Going through every field to copy/paste text is not really an option I would like to resort to. Also it sometimes introduces strange characters into the text. PLEASE, pretty please, give us text export already! Thanks and Cheers
