Hi Further to my post in this thread I have just tried installing the latest version and still get the failed error on the event first time round. After restart program installs as if fresh installation, probably because the initial attempt un-installed the previous version then failed. However this time I got another error which I do not particularly understand about an element missing which I think related to J script?, I clicked not to continue but it then came up installation successful. I have saved my event logs from the start of the process but not sure if they will help, if you want them can i send direct as I am not sure if any confidential information contained in them

Thanks Walt & Typo, both good suggestions and both easy to work with. The double click in the frame seems the easy one to remember for now and double clicking outside the text box on a blank part of the document or the grey work area returns focus to the select / move tool

A difference i have noticed between Page Plus and Publisher is that in PP clicking inside a text box allows you to edit the text i.e. it changes the focus to text editing. In Publisher you have to click on the text icon before you can edit. Do not know if this is intentional with a rationale from professional vs dtp or if there is an option to change it to edit when clicking inside the text box, but I find it annoying keep switching rather than it being dynamic. Using the latest Beta version on Windows 10

Hi I have posted about similar problems that I experience. I get the create directory error if I just click on the upgrade. What I have to do to overcome this is right click the update file and select run as administrator (even though my user account is set as administrator). I usually the find the install may fail on the first attempt, but after a restart it install without problem. Hope this helps. I would say that run as administrator is not unique to Publisher and I have had other programs that have failed on the create directory exception.

Just to update my previous post - one again version 206 installed first time on my laptop, but failed first time on my PC. After restart it failed again, this is the first time it has failed after a restart. I had unchecked create a desktop shortcut, tried again with it checked and it updated. Again all these have to be run as administrator as somehow my PC requires this or it cannot create a file, throws up exception error. Again this is just for observation

Thanks everyone for the explanations, fortunately in this case is was not too complicated that my system could not handle it, all be it slowly, and I could manage the alterations to customise and an exported png was sufficient for my final needs. But it is good to know the reasoning so that I can be aware of the complications eps files can present.

Thanks for that. now the I have looked at the layer groupings I can see what you mean, all though I do not understand the data logic for the size increase between formats.

Hi When I open an eps file size about 2mb file it seems to be increasing to about 37mb in designer, when saved as an afdesigner file even though the image at 100% is less than 20x20cm on screen. When exported as an svg it becomes nearly 67mb. These make the files very slow to work on. I have not worked with eps files before so not sure if I need to do something to bring them down in size when opening. Any help greatly appreciated. The file is from freepik.com 6423.eps

Many thanks for that Carl that is a lot better than how I was doing it (individually). The problem faced once again is the preview size in the assets panel (small thumbnails) I did highlight this in a previous thread, also mentioning that png files were near impossible to see using the dark interface. Hopefully that will progress. The Place Panel has really good size preview images and a size somewhere in between would be great for the asset panel (unless again I am missing a setting.

I know there have been a number of threads on updates failing and I am just offering this as an observation. On my desktop PC every update I have attempted has failed on the first try. When I restart the PC it installs without problem, but acts as if it is installing a new application (presumably the first attempt removed the existing version). I also run this as administrator as I get failures with installations not being able to create a folder/file in the process without this permission? When I install on my laptop it updates first time without error every time. The screens below show the specs for each device, I only attach a tablet to my laptop as and when needed, the PC has a permanent one attached PC Laptop

Is it possible to share your method? This is one of the issues that causes me problems and the only way I have found is quite slow.

I have just gone through the process of creating a sub-catagory of assets for user defined assets. In PPX9 these could be dragged in to the screen and they were easy to see in the asset panel. I have found out how to add selected item to the assets but the display thumbnai size is very small and I am not sure if this can be altered by the user. Also when using the dark theme it would be good to have an option to lighten the panel background (simmilar to how you can do artboards and back ground) as when adding a png file to the assets it becomes almost impossible to see it and other images are truncated see attatched files for examples. the "f" is the Find us on facebook logo. Hi Just to clarify, I am a advocate of regular saving and do this in production work. At the moment I am trying to learn Publisher as I have Designer and Photo and want to complete the suite. you will note that I stated 30mins work lost, this was something I have been working on for a few hours, mainly around learning how to do things in AFP and trying things out. Once I have developed a technique and checked whether this is documented in the Help menu, if not I make notes. I have found Walts retrieval setting and noted this is set as mentioned, but obviously not something that is working at the moment, but still think autosave would be helpful.

I have just had an exception error which closed AFP and lost the work I had done in the last 30mins. Is there an autosave feature? if not is one planned? Regards Alan P

Just designed a newsletter that I previously did in PagePlus X9 and come across the same problem. As I have Affinity Designer and Photo I am keen to stick with this beta ready for the launch of the full version, but may have to be selective on the result required My solution was to export the design as a PDF and then open that in PagePlus X9 and then add the hyperlinks and then publish as web PDF. Would agree with other posters that hyperlinks and some of the options around publishing that were in PP V9 are an essential in my opinion and will stop me going for the paid version of AFP until availabl

Thanks MEB practiced and got the results I required, although a lot slower and intricate than with Inkscape that seems to have a dedicated tool for this time of drawing. Hopefully as Affinity develops It may become easier, but will continue to use Inkscape for this type of drawing and bring in to Affinity as a svg. Regards Alan

Many thanks MEB found the tool and does what I require for creating the leaf end. Do you know if there is a tutorial for creating swirls and flourishes in Affinity to get the smooth effect of the swirl as in inkscape? I came across a way once but did not make a note as I was trying to get the effect you have explained above. It seemed to be using a stabilizer then the line appeared when the path had been drawn. Many thanks Carl123 & R C-R noted the way to edit through the two programs in File menu I have looked further regarding the nodes and the action in Inkscape I am referring to is done by converting the Object to path from the path menu. I have opened the svg file in affinity and added comments as the text did not transfer over. I have just acquired Affinity Designer and Photo as I have been a user of Serif Page, Draw & Photo plus for a few years and they have served me well. I explored Inkscape, GIMP and Scribus but for the price of Affinity having proper support & planned development is worth the price. I have an initial couple of questions if anyone can help me with I would be grateful 1. In the serif products you could call up another of the programs from within the current work area i.e. if I was using Pageplus I could choose to edit a photo in Photoplus etc. Will this happen with Affinity products? 2. One of the things I found useful in Inkscape was when using the bezier tool the nodes were on the outside of the line, so you had two nodes on the outside of the line, whereas with the pen tool in Designer I get a node in the centre of the line. The two nodes were useful in that if you drew a flourish you could give the end a leaf effect by moving one of the nodes. Is there a way to replicate this with Designer? I not of I draw it in inkscape then copy and paste in to Designer I get the two nodes and can move one side of the line.
