Thanks Guys, RC1 seems to be working on my machine now. Affinity is doing GREAT work.

So now my AP on lion doesn't even pretend to open, so my question is this: Should I drag it into the trash can before I download th RC that I think is coming out today? Or should I try to open it and see if the RC shows up as an upgrade? Thanks for the awesome efforts you are putting into the whole Affinity lineup.

Photo 1.2.1.25787

Thanks, MEB. -
I just tried to open the latest beta of Affinity Photo and it won't open. I get a Restore Windows popup but it simply won't open. I'm on Lion--is that the problem? Thanks

Leigh, instead of sending the large print document, I'm sending a small document that is probably much easier to see the problem. As you can see the numbers on the horizontal axis are quite strange and either I don't understand them or it's a glitch. Anyway, lets try again. Thanks so much for trying to track this down.

The items you mentioned (printed below) are essential. Most of the printers I deal with still want to see PDF-X1A. They also request created documents at their finished size and letting InDesign add the bleeds, etc. I think that anything you can add to help the professional designer should be included. Keep up your fantastic work! [We can add Pantones very easily - we have the licenses etc. We would have to get the UI passed, but we've done that before and know how it works. My question is, what else would we then need to do? Is PDF-X1A absolutely essential? Is trim / bleed / crop / registration absolutely essential? Coverage warnings? I'm trying to decide what to do.. I can put Pantones in the swatches panel for you, no problem - but is it valuable without those other things?]

Actually there is a professional program that is a combination of vector drawing, bitmap and typesetting--all in one program. There is no switching when you go to different tools to complete whatever project you a working on. It also includes a strong technical drawing mode. Like Affinity Designer it can do both bitmap and vector drawing without switching to any other program. It is called Canvas. In Canvas when you want to add a bitmap you go to what they call the Sprite Tool. It was originally Deneba Canvas and now is owned by ACD. Currently it is only a Windows program but I think they are now in beta testing for a Mac Version. It sells for around $600. I hope the Affinity programmers take a look at Canvas and see what has been done for the last 15 or 20 years--I think it might make Affinity products even better. Affinity rocks and I will buy every product they put out. I wonder...am I the only guy on the forum that uses Canvas as well as Affinity?

User manual
Bobaffinity replied to JohnB's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I too like printed manuals and and find them very useful. I use InDesign a lot and have several books and manuals on the subject. But, by far, the best manual is one published by O'Reilly, called InDesign Production Cookbook. This is probably the best example of very clever design, layout and concise writing that makes using this book a real pleasure. (I noticed that it was printed in the UK.) If Affinity could work with these folks in preparing a manual they would have a very useful manual that they could sell and really help the Affinity programs get out into the mainstream and really give Adobe something to worry about. Affinity rocks. I hope they complete the circle with a manual that is as outstanding as their programs. -
I'm working on a project that requires numerous guide lines that must be placed very accurately. I've set preferences for "inches" but only the vertical ruler shows "inches". The horizontal ruler shows only points. Is this a bug? Or do I need a workaround? By the way, this is an awesome program with awesome support--both from Serif and other users. Thanks

I was really hoping that Affinity would hire James Felici to guide them on the typesetting aspects of Publisher. Or at least include most everything he suggests in his book The Complete Manual of Typography. If Affinity would do something like this, I think they would do to Adobe in two or three years what Adobe did to Quark when they got to CS3. We can only hope. Keep up your GREAT work, Affinity.

I am working on a publication with about 60 pieces of color art. Today I decided to use AP to process some additional art. I imported the art, changed the size and converted it from RGB to CMYK. When I went to save it a box popped up and said I couldn't save it as a pdf. It said I could save it as a pdf.apl file. My question is when the printer gets my package and most art is pdf, what will happen when they encounter a pdf.apl file? Is this compatible with pdf? What is the difference between a pdf and a pdf.apl? Do I need to go back to Photoshop to maintain consistency for this project? Thanks in advance for your support. Ths is truly an awesome forum. Bob

Can Affinity Photo handle ATN files/plug-ins? If so, where and how do you load them? Off-topic: I'm greatly impressed where this whole Affinity project is going. It may well become the new standard in a couple of years. Bob
