  1. Yes that does the job nicely! However there is one tiny problem and that is sometimes I want to manually align the guide with an object's handle but the handle disappears as soon as I move the guide. Remember the reason I want to manually move the guide is for accuracy and that snapping often gets in the way. Your solution fixes this problem for me.

Disappearing handles whilst moving a guide has been issue between me and Serif for several years. In my view it defies common-sense to make them disappear.

  2. On the same subject of guide lines but related to selecting an object on a guide line and I may be a bit late in making a comment,

I believe that at one time in AD you could select an object with the Move tool that was aligned with a guide line. Today however the Move tool defaults to selecting the guide line. If its a stroke that is being selected, you have to move the guide line in order to select the stroke. If its any other kind of object then another part of the object, not on a guide line, can be used to select it.

If I'm right and it was changed back in time, it was a retrograde change! My question is why was this done? Presumably it was considered an improvement but I think not.

  3. I just submitted this feature request.

It would be useful to be able to nudge a guide into the required position, using the 4 cursor keys,  if the guide is trying to Snap to an unwanted position.

Turning the Snapping feature on and off  could be a solution but then you have to remember to turn it back on again after.

Perhaps using a dedicated modifier key could used in tandem with the cursor keys.

To me "Nudging" suggests using just the arrow keys to move something, in which case the answer is no. You can't select a guide by clicking it and then moving it with curser keys. You can double click the guide and use the Guides dialogue box to move the guide (Ctrl, mouse scroll moves by .1 mm, as does Ctrl up/down keys).

Or you could create a new layer and add pen lines to this layer (instead of guides). This layer could be displayed or hidden as required.

Thank you Mick you made it perfectly clear that what I'm asking cannot be done.

I'll suggest it as a feature request and hold my breath to see if it ever gets considered!

  6. Let me put another way! I can select a guide with the Move tool and it will move according to the snapping settings.

What I am suggesting is that you select the guide with the Move tool and then use the to 4 cursor keys to override the snapping setting and nudge the guide to where you want it which may be close to an unwanted snapping position.

If you are going to suggest changing the snapping settings then forget it! Too much hassle in resetting the snapping back again afterwards!

Like I said, "if its not possible I'll suggest it as a new feature request."

  7. I said I don't want it to snap!!!!

I said would like to be able to nudge the guide manually, using the cursor keys to where I do want it! Forget about snapping!

I'm getting the impression that I'm asking for too much!

If it can't be done I'll suggest it as a feature request.

These icons are located at the bottom of the Layers panel. If you don't see them, it's possible that they're hidden by another panel, or the Layers panel is extending off-screen (perhaps not docked).

I suspect that it is extended off screen. I'll reload the Layers tab and see if that works.
