  1. Such a feature would really be taking the original idea of paths some place different. Like: it would require a rethink on how to code them, which would probably effect a path's compatibility with the many other vector programs out there, and the ability to export to other vector formats. Not saying it's a bad idea, just a whole "other" idea. Meanwhile, a work-around that comes to mind is: - Duplicate the path, leaving it in place. - On the duplicate path, delete all the sides/segments that you _don't_ want to be different. - Stroke or unstroke the remaining side/segment to taste; - Select original and the duplicate, and group them.
  2. Awesome! Know that your every release makes users deliriously happy. :^) - pbass
  3. Love to be able to copy single nodes, line segments, or a selection of nodes – including the exact geometry of any curve handles – and then paste it/them into the front node an open curve. With the option of pasting its mirror version – vertical, horizontal, or both. It is very hard to manually make a curve exactly match another one. Repeatability is crucial for precise work. Snapping control handles (when they arrive) will sure help, but copy/paste of any of a curve's (or shape's) selected bits would be supremo! You can easily copy an entire curve/shape, but not parts of one. You can do the former, delete what you don't need, and then attach the bits you need; but that's a long way round. I apologize if you've heard any or all of this before (and please correct me if any of this is already possible). Oh, and as Sven Kalkschmidt already suggested, the functionality of the following Illustrator plugin looks amazingly useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpOaC5XGyZU Thanks for your attention, and keep up the awesome programming, Serif/Affinity!
  4. Hey Affinity, Is there an approximate ETA for the next Designer update? I'm chomping at the bit for the features currently in the beta, but I don't want to mess with the beta's no-file-compatibility for later. thanks in advance, - pbass
  5. Awesome, I hadn't yet discovered separated view! Nor had I realized you can hide the Tool Bar. Great improvement! Even with the toolbar hidden, the "parameter ribbon" for each tool (er, that's what I'm calling it) still extends horizontally across 3/4 of my Macbook Pro screen. I'd love it if that thing could go vertical.
  6. General UI Layout: Vertical Space Usage There's something that drives me _bananas_ about PS Elements; but it's also a concern about almost every graphics & photo app in existence: Most User Interfaces squander valuable vertical screen real estate, heedlessly and unnecessarily. Here's the situation: - Modern screens are much wider than tall. - Many people spend at least some of their productive time working on a little laptop screen. - Even with Retina displays, it's often necessary to limit screen res, for UI legibility. - Documents, layouts and graphics are just as likely to be portrait orientation, as landscape. So obviously vertical space is way more likely to be a problem than horizontal. When you're working on a portrait style page or a tall object, every last vertical pixel is precious. (Worst case scenario: Editing a portrait in PS Elements, you're lucky to have 30% of screen pixels for your image!! Absurd.) This is probably more of a request for the upcoming Affinity Photo app; but it sure would be useful to have in Designer, too: It would be über useful to have at least the option of getting all interface elements off to the sides to allocate all vertical resources to the document/page. 2 different UI layout presets, maybe? – 1 for landscape, 1 for portrait? Thanks for your consideration!
  7. Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Rather than adding more and more variant distribute buttons, just use a path/shape to show Designer where to distribute.
  8. This is the kind of answer that makes me so hopeful about this software and this company: You're receptive to requests, but you try to keep a sense of priorities. That's the way its gotta be, and that's what is going to give us a steadily improving, professionally useful design tool. Eventually it's going to be a world beater. (I just hope and pray that you're making enough sales to pay the programmers until that day comes!)
  9. Hi there, Would anybody else find it useful to have a key command to hide all vector outlines & nodes (& bounding boxes too) without deselecting the item, nor changing tools? It's easier to judge your final result without the distraction of the "back-room mechanics" on top of your stroke. I remember using that kind of Hide command back in Adobe days. Just pressing Spacebar for a momentary Hand tool _almost_ does the trick. But not if you're adjusting the item's stroke or brush or layer fx properties in a dialog – then Spacebar doesn't work. So you have to judge your adjustments with the nodes & outlines obscuring your edges (with Pen or Node tool selected, at least). And if you switch to a different tool that hides outlines & bounding box, then your pen or node tool parameter ribbon goes away. All these issues would be resolved with an additional View ->View Mode: Artwork/Result Only. Thanks in advance for considering it!
  10. It would be a bit of work, but some ambitious person could - export the Help Viewer pages ( ~ 140 of them? or so) as separate PDFs via the Mac's print dialog - assemble them into a single document in Preview (Google for widely available instructions) or in some other, more convenient PDF editor app. I know you folks at Affinity are mighty busy, but at some point a perusable user's manual would be very helpful. (More wonderful still would be if it had more illustrated examples than the Help files.) I see myself writing this, but I'm simultaneously sympathetic with you for having to respond to the never-ending stream of user requests! All things considered, I'd rather you guys were adding missing features, than messing with documentation. Some user with the spare time can compile the Help files and post it. - pbass
  11. Thanks MEB, that's helpful. I'm slowly exploring AD and having a blast doing it. The inclusion of many the many raster tools is extremely useful to me. I can't wait to see your quality software develop over the coming months & years. Cheers, - pbass
  12. Hi there, When you're adjusting a curve with the node handles, Is there any way to a) make the opposite handle follow your adjustment as exact mirror image – i.e., so the two sides of a curve are perfectly symmetrical? and b) have the handles themselves snap to grid? So that the curve can be repeated perfectly, on another node? I'm imagining this could be invoked with Control or Command Thanks!
