I guess I could use Designer to make the initial document but the guide manager doesn't work with all the artboards right, does it? I did successfully do our first newspaper edition this week using Publisher instead of Indesign. It actually worked without too many problems. No showstoppers and the separations looked okay for the most part. Some of the ads that gray was specified ended up separating as RGB converted to CMYK and I'm not sure why. If you made sure ahead of time that the color in the ads were 0 0 0 100 then the colors translated to the correct plate.

how much space do you have free on your SSD? How much memory do you have? I worked in Publisher all day long yesterday and never got the beach ball once.

This is for a newspaper layout. In Indesign you can use the page tool and move the page so there is a gap. That way it looks more like the newspaper page (with the gutter). It makes it easier to have things go off the edge without effecting the adjacent page in the spread.

Is there an easy way to put a gutter between the pages in a spread? thanks!

on the mac it seems to do nothing. from the responses I found online it looks that windows versions are crashing.

What does it mean if I have a multi-artboard file but objects only one artboard can be selected by the mouse? The other artboards are not locked and neither are the child objects. The only way that I can selecte them is to go into the layers pallet and click each one there.

Did you happen to watch the very good tutorial video that they have for this? It shows using to different data sources simultaneously. for the most part, much more powerful than Indesign. The only feature I miss is the blank cell feature to remove the line.

Ok. I did some more testing and attached the file and the link. it happens when I use PDF X4 setting for export. If I use PDF for print it does not do rasterize. It also does seem to do the same whether it is the slice or export. I must have had to different settings last night when I thought they were the same. Virtual Open House.pdf test.afdesign

Thanks for getting version 1.9 out. I think the new features will be very good. I am testing out the PDF Passthrough abilities for our newspaper and every time I do the file is rasterized when exported using slices. It seems to export fine from the export menu, but with slices it rasterizes the file using the same PDF export setting. Is there anything that I am missing? Also, is there a way to get a higher resolution preview out of PDF passthrough? thanks!

Ok. I see that if I remove the stroke around the text it doesn't do that. If I ad it back on, it does it again. But it doesn't do that with all text blocks. I wonder why? Thanks for fixing that and to let me know what I can do while waiting!

Interesting because I don't seem to have an option for any values in my decorations panel:

It seems there can be files with objects that have hidden selection margins. I believe this is a bug or something setup wrong in my file. When I try and click an object many times it selects an object far off. It will do this consistently in this document. I'm using the Mac. It seems to happen in every Affinity product with the files that have the problem. This was a PDF originally that I started with. I can select objects behind by holding down option and clicking. The selection perimeter of the top most object is very large. Is there something I'm doing wrong? This happens on other documents too, but not all. I just want to tell you my appreciation for Serif listening to customers, even when it requires patience on our end. I use the programs everyday. For 90% of our work it has completely replaced Adobe. I wouldn't be surprised that once PDF passthrough is enabled and works that we will be at 99% for creative production and newspaper. Unfortunately there is no replacement for Acrobat and the plugins that we use all the time. The ability for Serif to be able to have all three of their programs ready for a new platform on day of release of the OS is a testament to their dedication for their software and customers for the future. Adobe, on the other hand, hopes to have Lightroom by the end of the year and Photoshop out next year. Nothing about Indesign or Illustrator. I'm sure it's a mess of code because of years of just adding in without making sure was optimized. Thank you and God bless!

If this is something regular that you need, save it as an export preset. I have my own because I need specific settings.

-1 command+L is much easier.

I tried it again with the same file and now it seems fine. I'm not sure if there was an update to MacOS that fixed it or something else. Would it be possible to relink all the files at once if they are in the same folder? I can't seem to get Publisher to do that.
