I use logos many times in a PDF format so they cannot change. But that does not seem to matter if it fails or not. The posters that I talked about in the OP that I ended up not posting, does not have any placed PDFs only placed jpg or affinity files.
-
for some reason it seems to happen in about half of my documents. Some very simple. Others complex. and I'm not sure the reason.

I'm used both Designer and Publisher and I get this: It seems to be related to my custom PDF settings. I went back and chose the default - Which actually causes problems because of it's lack of PDF/x4 which is very important. I don't think I can actually send my print settings but here is the screenshot: from checking different options, it appears that it's the PDF/x4 is the option that is stopping exporting from working on my files. The reason I'm using the PDF/x4 is because a couple years ago when I was testing it was the only setting that would maintain color consistency in PDFs for printing. I wll test again soon to see if that issue was addressed in recent version.

As a printer I would be very upset with somebody who gave me a file that had a solid of 400% ink. In fact, it has happened quite a few times and I go in and change the PDF to be what people want and not what they give me. There is not a single good reason for having that kind of density. It will cause a mess on the press (even digital could be a problem) and the ink will not want to dry. A super black can easily be achieved by a much lower density of 25 25 25 100 that will dry and have much faster turnaround.

Hello Gabe, I am uploading it right now. I found a very simple file that won't work. I don't know why. If you still want me to upload the veyr large files I will do that. Thanks!

I have posters that I cannot get to export for anything. They are senior posters and I really dont' want to post them because it has their names on it. The problem even if everythign on the page is rasterized it still cannot export. There are 15 the document and they are 36x48". I ended up exporting them as JPG files but I had to make them .5" larger to account for the bleed. It was the only way I could get them out. Is there a way that I can find out exactly what the error is rather than the message be so generic? The pictures used were all done as individual affinity photo files. Last year I did them and the file got into the gigs in size because I embedded the pictures and then did the masking.

The newspaper screenshot was put in by accident and It wouldn't let me delete it. As for the other palletes, I'm not sure what what you are talking about de-activating. I just see that it works right in Designer but not in Publisher - even the same file. Are you thinking the pallete was already replaced in Designer and that's why it works? Is there a minor preference that is changing this? thanks!

Affinity Designer corrected a bug/preference. When a document is setup as CMYK and US Web Coated and you click black in the swatch (any blacks) it should be mixed in the sliders with "K" only. This is how Designer works and is correct now that 1.8 came out. I notice that if I select the same thing in Publisher it will do a RGB conversion of blacks and make a value of all four colors, which is incorrect behavior. thanks! Bryce

In 1.8.1 the drop shadows feature does not seem to be multiplying when on top of a vector even though the dialog box shows it is. on top of bitmaps it seems fine. I can post screen shots and files if you want. The second bug that seems to be different in function is all fonts are now converted to curves when exported as a PDF. I can see this as a good feature for somethings such as when a font isn't licensed but not all the time. Also, I'm getting random crashes regularly. I'm running Designer 1.8.1 and MacOS 10.15.4 (19E250c)

Top 3 things I want from Publisher 2020

Using this does the same thing. Click on the text copy and shift+cmd+v will take on the style of what ever you copied from, unless I'm misunderstanding the intention.- 8 replies

I know I have wondered this before and never quite found a solution but if I copy from one document that's 300 dpi vs another that is 600 dpi the radius' and arcs will all double (or shrink going the other way)? Is that a bug or a feature because it doesn't really make sense to me and I need to understand.

Multiple page spreads with multiple sizes options in each spread is a requirement nowadays. One can do that just fine in Designer using artboards. I very much like how artboards work in Designer and something along those lines would be great for Publisher.

I'm working on converting my Indesign newspaper spreads to Affinity for testing. My newspaper spreads, which are 2 facing pages (10.33x16.25" each page) came in as one large single page. I also get quite a few crashes when trying to open the IDML files.

Well the conversions didn't go quite as well on other files. I'll post it in the bugs. My newspaper spreads, which are 2 facing pages came in as one large single page. I also get quite a few crashes when trying to open the files.

You are right. Adobe can only place PDF files, not open them. Of course they can still be vector but that's it. This might be a good opportunity to show your colleague Affinity as it really can do a lot that Indesign cannot, especially if you can show how you can edit pictures without going to Photoshop. Affinity brilliantly opens PDF, IDML, or can copy and paste fairly well from Indesign. It is a shame that Indesign has not had much love in the last 10 years. It's basically the same as CS6 with a few small things added. I have to pay the subscription or I would be locked out of my thousands of INDD files. Show knows though now that IDML is available for import, I think it will change everything.

[Implemented] Data merge
Bryce replied to CusumanoCasper's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I don't know if this is pertinent but for those who want to abandon Indesign can you use the Acrobat plugin Quite Imposing Plus 5. It now can take your Affinity PDF's (or any for that matter) and apply CSV merges to them. I also am excited for the day when we can finally have mail merges. That and raster to vector conversions are the only thing I see needed just about! Maybe vector warping. -
I just opened a batch of newspaper ads in a file (probably 100 or so) and the conversion took a little time but it seemed to work. Even handling the broken links and fonts similar to Indesign. Great job! We'll be trying it out a lot more in the coming days.
