AMD Radeon RX Hardware Acceleration
nitro912gr replied to Mark Ingram's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Nobody told em eh? Interesting, this show how seriously take the bug reports... Also I don't believe serif lie to us about being in contact with AMD, I mean they implemented AMD support in the first place and the bug is real and exist even in other apps like Davinci Resolve (although I think they did some workaround there). I have found many instances of the AMD openCL bug through the internet in windows and linux situations. -

Take a closer look, the fast ones are the old GPUs. Yeah selected designer and I just wrote a description with the info from this topic and how the openCL driver need to be fixed or something like that, alongside some whining about finally get some love from developers (usually most of the apps supported cuda and not openCL) but now AMD is not fixing the driver. -

Here is a quick guide on how to report the bug, I already sent the report on my side and explained everything, but I also made sure to say multiple times "fix openCL on your driver", fingers crossed but if this keep going like this I will break tradition and jump to the green team next time the market normalize. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/amdbrt?utm_campaign=report&utm_medium=redirect&utm_source=301 -

ok time to start spamming AMD then -

yeah ok but AMD have released a lot of newer drivers at this point and we still haven't heard from someone with inside info from serif. A simple "amd drivers still sucks" could be enough -

The problem is on the driver and AMD rdna cards have it with most programs that use opencl for gpgpu. Just Google it and you will see by yourself. What can the team do? I am team red since ati 9600 but this is getting ridiculous. For years the programs where only supporting cuda and now that finally supports opencl so AMD cards can play along AMD can't fix the stupid drivers for after 1 and a half years. -

So can anyone from the developer team tell us what is the state of things is as of now? We have reached 22.2.2 driver. Have they fixed anything? If so we wait for some minifix on your side? if we install the pro drivers? Will it work or this problem exist there too? -

yeah this driver is very basic and will barely run the monitor on it's native resolution with terrible performance. -
Hello and thanks for your respond, I see in the latest comments that AMD is reporting the issue as fixed but also that affinity need to update something? Please if anyone from the development team can share a comment on that I would really appreciate it. Unbelievable however what a big difference this GPU acceleration have on performance, in a good way. If we get out of the dire GPU market situation it will be so much simpler to just update GPU later down the line and gain even better performance.

Thanks, it could be as well, I will wait to see then. The thing is, I use a font manager but I haven't organized my fonts in many folders. I have one folder that I activate once I want to work. I tried to organize the fonts sometime in the past but that wasn't that easy, especially because I'm a bilingual user and that breaks down the fonts in even more categories. Maybe I need to do it however, I have grown my font collection a lot the past 5 years but I barely use 10-15 fonts at all while working. Most of them are in the "maybe it will be nice in this job" level of usefulness.

So I was watching some communities in reddit lately and this came up It is not a big deal for me because I haven't used pantone like, never in my work flow, but I know a lot of people who need consistency in printing care a ton about pantone colors, even the simulated ones in our programs of work. So what affinity will do with the pantones?

So I always had terrible performance when trying to copy an artboard with some text objects in it with pressing ctrl+mouse 1, but always though it was about my old system. Now that I updated however I noticed this again I wonder where is the bottleneck here. Old system is still on my signature below, upgraded only CPU./MOBO/RAM to a Ryzen 1600AF (O.C. at 3,4 since it is a 2600 actually), 16GB DDR4 2666 and AM4 mobo. This is a considerable performance upgrade and everything is flying so far, so I was troubled by this bottleneck here that take like 10 seconds to even show the copied artboard in where I move the cursor. So is this some short of software bottleneck because of the fonts? if I make everything curves there is no lag at all in coping like this. Does it matter how many activated fonts I have at the time? I activate like 3000 fonts when I work, but if this is the problem I could get into the trouble of making sub folders to load fonts on demand and not my whole folder. But I don't want to get into that rabbit hole if this is not going to change this performance issue here. Thanks in advance

thanks but it requires Cherry product for anything more than the F keys, maybe some software that can change per program behavior because system wide change will not help much. Thank you, I'm a little confused with the whole region separators settings, but I guess you understand what I meant by now with that "conversion" I talked about. If there is a way to happen it will be nice. Otherwise... well, I have lived my whole life before affinity with need to reach for the comma, it is not gonna ruin me

Hello! Affinity, Windows and keyboard are all set in US English, if I switch to Greek keyboard it works, but otherwise it doesn't. I have tried to change affinity to UK English but still not working, I will try to change the keyboard I have to add that this happens in any dialog in the program, sizes, font size, stroke size. edit: Region settings are set to Greece.

Thanks for the update but I see the automatic conversion of full stop to comma is not fixed yet
