  1. Hello Walt.Farrell. Thank you for your reply. I came back here the day after I wrote this post and deleted the content as I resolved my confusion. To answer hopefully answer your questions…the file originated on my MBP. After I closed the file from Live Docs on my iPad (while out of wifi zone) the version on MBP did not include the recent work. However, I found the version with the current work saved to my iPad. So, nothing lost, but not as I understood Apple Tech to explain the process. And I’m not thrilled to have wound up with multiple copies of the same file with the same name in two different locations and two different levels of progress, but I can work with the result now that the process is more clear. So, no further info is needed. Thank you for giving me your time. In regards to the iPad update, thank you for the note. Multiple devices, much software, constant updates requiring more time/attention than available. But that’s life these days. ,
  2. I’m not really sure if this is an Affinity issue or an iCloud issue, or maybe I’m just dumb and this is something I “should” know…I have only recently adopted using iCloud. I have a Macbook Pro and an iPad. My base file is “on” the MBP, backed up to iCloud. I work on the file on the iPad, “opened” (as opposed to “imported”) to Affinity Designer. I save the file (using the option under “Defaults”) regularly as I work. If I step away from the iPad I save the file from the options on Designer’s ”Live Docs” screen (the three horizontal lines in the upper right of the small window showing the file). I saved the file using this process, then closed the file out of Designer-yes, I “saved” again via the pop up window that appears when one closes a file. However, I was offline at the time. When I went back to the file, all the progress on the file since the last time I closed the file out of Designer was gone. Like I said, maybe I’m just dumb and I should have known better than to close a file when offline, but this just doesn’t seem appropriate to me, so I’m bringing this to the Forum to see if it is a problem, or just the way things are. Version 2.2.0.2005 on iPadOS 16.6.1 Version 2.2.1 on macOS 11.7.6
  3. Adding support for this fix. Very critical for my work also. Thank you.
  4. In my iPad’s (iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (4th generation) OS15.4.1) Apple Pencil Settings I have set Double Tap to “off”. I understand this affects tapping on the flat side of my Apple Pencil. In my Affinity Designer 1.10.21 Preferences for the Pencil I have turned off “Enable double tap”. What more can I do to stop my Apple Pencil from switching between pencil and eraser ( in Pixel mode), and changing whatever color I’m using to whatever color I touch, should I happen to tap the screen? Thank you.
  5. @firstdefence agreed. I often find someone’s past question resolves my questions. Thank you again for your help!
  6. @iconoclast thanks for thought. I was using pen brush, so yes, 100% accumulation. Setting K to 100% in the color panel was the solution. Still dk why K wouldn’t be 100% when the basic black swatch was selected, but, whatevers…it’s all working. Thank you again for the assist.
  7. @loukash, perhaps I was too polite in my reply to you, so I will try one more time...this thread is about the technical reason for the masking process to not work. It is inappropriate, and I find it personally offensive, for you to bring in your opinion about my education (or lack of it). Please stop and stay on topic.
  8. @walt.farrell, on the color wheel, the HSL sliders were all at 0 with 100% opacity (you can see this in the first screen shot I posted). I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the results of using this color on a mask to be complete coverage. Having to dive over to cmyk setting to check the k seems like an overly fussy step. But I dunno, haven’t heard from anyone at Affinity on this thread (not that you-all aren’t awesome ;-).
  9. Then invest some time and learn to understand how Affinity vector clipping works. Once you've got a grip on it, you'll be wondering why you'd even wasted so much time and effort on pixel masks… loukash, yes, ongoing learning is always good and I appreciate the intent of your advice is to be helpful. But this is a forum for technical support so, in my opinion, your comment is beyond the scope of the thread. We all work differently, despite using the same software. Thank you for your time and skills.
  10. R C-R yes, generally K stands for black. Here’s an article that explains more https://gearside.com/color-black-represented-k-cmyk/. Puzzles me why out-of-the-box settings for Designer would be anything less than 100% K. As I explained, this is the first project in a new installation of Designer on a recently upgraded laptop, so the challenge has been sussing out which element (hardware, OS, software) is causing me difficulties. But I do find Affinity’s mask tools to be somewhat persnickety (or could be it’s something I am regularly doing wrong, lol). Just yesterday, masking a jpg in Photo (on the iPad Pro) when I changed from black to white the tool didn’t work-instead of revealing that which was masked it continued to cover as if I had not changed colors. But I’ve been running into this for years, both on the laptop and on the iPad, both Photo and Designer. It’s annoying, but restarting usually fixes the problem so I’ve never bothered pursuing it until now. Thank you for your time.
  11. firstdefense, lol, fair enough. Project for a long-term client www.lifeisgrruff.com . Their main logo mascot is a drawing by the owner’s sister-the challenge for me was to create designs that stay somewhat true to her original drawing. I have done about a dozen t-shirt designs for them over the years. This set of projects is labels for subscription boxes.
  12. firstdefense, responding to your later post, I don’t mind answering your question, but I’d like to see if there are any unforseen results of my answer so I am wondering what prompts you to ask me this? Thx.
  13. loukash, yes, please see my response to firstdefense above. Thank you.
  14. firstdefence, at this phase of design I am noodling options. For me, masking is faster than fussing with clipping. I have accepted that I have to make a pass at the end of my design process to make everything delivery ready. I have to do this anyway because Affinity does not currently offer a way to translate my pixel layers into vector (I do miss Illustrator’s blob brush and vectorize capabilities). Other than the issues I mention in my response to carl123, this process has worked well for me over the years. Thank you for your assistance,
