  1. OK. I had to expand the Symbol Studio to see the toolbar to create a symbol.

Then I could reproduce the crash by dragging the Ellipse in the layers tab.

I understand. I had the Symbol Studio docked to the right side of the window so that it was wide enough in the first place.

I undocked the Symbol Studio to try and see what you saw. By that I discovered that it is possible to narrow the width of the Studio to almost a vertical line. I think there should be some minimum width. The same applies to all Studios.

  2. I came across this accidentialy. Actually it does not make sense to do this but it should not make AD crash.

    1) In a new document create a square.

    2) Create another object (i.e. circle) above and inside the square.

    3) Group both together and create a symbol from this.

    4) From the symbols palette drag this symbol on the document. Now there are two copies of the symbol in the layers studio.

    5) Open both layers/symbols by clicking the triangle arrow at the left side.

    6) Drag any of the elements from one symbol into the other symbol.

    7) AD immediatly crashes.

Of course, logically it does not make sense to move part of one symbol into another. But AD should give out a warning (or whatever) instead of crashing :-)

  3. Hi dominik,

I've just got hold of a German keyboard and set my keyboard input to German and it isn't working. Sorry. I'll get this sent to dev straight away.

This made me try to switch language settings to English (UK). But this doesn's change a thing. It's not working.

The restart that is required for the language switch made the program crash with a serious error (unhandled exception).

I then switched AD's language settings back to German, but activated the English (US) keyboard layout. That way I can zoom with Ctrl+Numpad+  !

There seems to be a difference between Numpad+ codes in different languages which I find funny.

  4. Hi dominik,

If you've reset your keyboard shortcuts it should be working now. Can you try running the app up with the Ctrl key held down and then click Clear.

I ran with the Ctrl key down and left the checkboxes to the default (which was top three checked).

I then cleared the keyboard shortcuts by pressing the Reset button.

Zooming with Ctrl-Numpad+ still doesn't work.

  5. 1) Open the Snapping Manager from the View menu

    2) Click on the downward triangle next to the "Screen tolerance" value. A slider appears.

    3) Click anywhere in the Snapping Manager and the slider disappears.

Do the same in the Snapping Manager window that opens from the toolbar.

The slider does NOT disappear unless you click the downward triangle again.

  6. I came across something in this "department" of which I am not sure if it is a bug or not.

    1) Create a square

    2) Change to the move tool (v) and then ALT move the sqare horizontally to the right. This creates a copy of the original square. Pressing the SHIFT key restricts the movement to horizontal.

    3) My goal is to place the copied square adjacent to the right border of the original square.

I would expect that the snapping feature indicates when the left side of the copied square and the right side of the original are identical. But this does not happen.

    4) Let go of the copied square a little away from the original.

    5) Then move again towards the original square and then snapping indicates contact of the two.

  7. I place a PDF document into a AD document with some elements, pictures and text.

The PDF contains one vectorized text line and imports fine. Text is outlines and single elements/layers. This is a logo, so no problem with that.

I now can edit the embedded PDF by either double clicking it or by clicking on the button "Edit Document" on the toolbar. Both works fine.

Right clicking on dht embedded PDF offers NOT an option to "edit the document". I think, this is missing.

Once I'm in my embedded document the top tap says <embedded>. Once I change any value in this document the top tab says <embedded> [changed] (or something similar. I'm on the german version of AD).

    Now the strange behaviour begins:

    • I think it would be appropriate to press CTRL+S to save the changes and update the original document. It seems to me that this is not (yet) possible.
    • In the "File" menu there is no option to "update" the currently edited embedded document.
    • I can click the "closing X" of the tab and only this brings up a dialog asking me if I want to save my changes to the embedded document. This is what I think is the proper behaviour.
    • Once I return to the document with the other embeded document (logo) I do not see the changes just made and saved.
    • Only if I e.g. change the zoom my display of the document get's updated.

One more thing: in the above szenario I had a third and completely unrelated document opened. After saving and closing the embedded document, AD does not return to the original document but to this completely unrelated document.

Can anyone reproduce this behaviour and is this a bug or not completely finished programmed feature?

  8. Hello Affinity team,

my congratulations to the release of this remarkable and valuable software. I'm very much looking forward into making it my main vector tool. Coming from Xara Designer (and some AI) I consider your modern approach as very promissing.

I came across a UI strangeness of which I am not sure if it is a bug or feature.

In the colour tab of the fill selector (and the outline selector as well) I switch to Greyscale.

The top slider that let's me adjust the "Grey" value has a background image from black to transparent (checker board). Please see the attached screenshot.

Shouln't it show on the right side plain white instead of the checker board?

Also: would it make sense to remember the last setting once opened again?

Thanks for listening and all the best during this exciting beta-run.

    D.
