  1. Hello, I am brandnew to Affinity tools and downloaded Affinity Photo Trial yesterday. Up to now I am very impressed! But I have a problem. I use it on an iMac (from 2011) with 27 inch screen and El Capitan. The UI symbols, icons, bars, buttons, etc. appear very small on my high resolution screen. The only thing I found is to set the 'Font UI size' to large. This makes it a littlebit better but all toolbar buttons, slider buttons, nodes of curves etc. appear very small so it is not very comfortable to see and to use. One has to be very precise to reach a certain button / icon etc. if it is only 2 mm on screen! Also the guides (the blue lines you drag out of the ruler) have a width of only 1 pixel and it is very difficult to see. Also the subwindows like e.g. curve, levels, etc. appear realtively small (around 8 cm in width on my screen). This is very small in width if I should judge the curve, histogram values or whatever, I prefer to have bigger analyzing windows because then I can see more details. Is there any way to increase the size of all UI elements? Thanks a lot!
  2. Hi, I have two masks in my project. Each mask selects different parts of my image. Now I want to combine them to a new mask (add operation). Currently I only can do this by CTRL-selecting first mask and create a spare channel of it. Then select the other mask, go to channels, right click the previously created spare channel and choose 'Add to pixel selection' and then click the 'Mask layer' icon. These are many steps to just combine two masks. :( Why there is no way to just select multiple masks and by right click providing a feature to combine them as add/substract/exor? Will this feature be added in the future? Thanks...
  3. Dear all, in Potoshop I could use 'Replace content' for a image in a layer to replace an transformed and positioned image. So new image will get same transformation and positioning as the prevoius one. Just image content is replaced. Is there any similar in Affinity photo? Explanation: I have several layers. In the bottom layer I want to replace the image with another image of same size. How can I easily replace that? This step I need multiple times. I need to replace that single image and print the document, then replace the image again and print the document and so on. Thanks...
  4. Hi, sometimes it is easier for drawing if you can rotate the canvas (I don't mean rotate document!). Is there any way to rotate the canvas temporarily? E.g. using 'horizontal flip' function of the clone tool for portrait retouching eyes in a potrait. It would be very helpful if I could rotate the canvas to align the eyes horizontally. Then I could use the 'horizontal flip' function of the clone tool to easily clone the right eye to the left eye and vice versa. Currently I can get this only using the 'Rotate' function of the clone tool, but it is not so easy to get the right angle since you can see the rotation only in the small brush. And if you use a transparent brush it is even worse to see the rotation of the brush. So much easier would be to rotate the canvas instead of the small brush. So again the question, can I rotate the canvas in Affinity photo? Thanks...
  5. Hi, I use AF on my PC running Windows 10 professional. I want to eliminate the background behind a womans head. I used the 'Selection Brush' tool to get a rough mask on her hair. Then I hit 'Refine' in the top bar. I lined out the fine hair with the brush and let AF do the calculation. I switched to preview mode 'Transparent' and the quality was acceptable. But if I cklick 'Apply' to create the final refined mask then the result is no longer acceptable. :(. The area around thin hair gets a small greyish halo / border. But this halo / border was not present in the 'Refine Selection' preview. I created a video which makes it visible what I mean: https://vimeo.com/224611657 So why after applying I get this ugly mask and not the clean one I got inside the Refine preview? How to improve this mask? Thanks!

    Issue after applying Refine Selection

I switched the video from SWF to MP4 and posted it on vimeo for easy access. (some browsers no longer support swf files) https://vimeo.com/224611657 So may someone from AF team could take a look and help me please?
  7. Hi MEB, thanks - I wonder what this function is for if we cannot set an arbitrary angle!?! Will this feature be added in the future?
  8. Hi, I often use the refine mask tool to separate hair from background. I often need to switch between the different preview types like Overlay, Black matte, white matte, black and white and Transparent to judge the quality of the refinement. Using the mouse to switch between these modes is really annoying. Are there any shortcut keys to switch between these modes? Thanks
  9. Thanks to all - that helped. (sorry for answering so lately)
  10. Hi bleduc and MEB, thanks for reply I found this feature now. But I don't have a trackpad. How can I rotate the canvas in arbitrary angle without trackpad? Any fixed angle is useless for me since I need to rotate my canvas to align eyes horizontally. Thanks for further help.
  11. Dear all, I have some text in my document which is flipped horizontally and vertically. If I want to edit the text on the screen it is very difficult since flipped text is not easy to read and Backspace and Del keys work in opposite direction on screen which is little wierd to follow. My question is there any edit box I can use to edit the text written left to right as usual? Thanks...
  12. Hi MEB, thanks for reply. Just to make it clear, I need it for Affinity Photo (Designer/Publisher I don't own). So again, is it planned for Photo as well?
  13. Hi, is there any update on this issue? When we will get reasonable UI for HiRes screens?
  14. Hi, thanks for reply. @MEB: Did you try to edit a horizontally and vertically flipped text on screen? This is really annoying! Is this planned as coming feature?
  15. Hi, I am new to Affinity photo and want to know if in version 1.4.1 a soft mask exists? What I need is that a mask has a certain transparency at it's border. How can I give a mask lets say a 10 pixel border with transparency changes from 0% to 100%? Something like this: https://rockymountaintraining.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Photoshop_ss_006.jpg So I want to use the circular mask tool and set a smooth border of e.g. 10 pixels. How can I do that with Affinity photo? Thanks!
  16. Hi, sorry for replying so lately - thanks that worked!
  17. Hi, I use the brush tool and want to limit the paint direction vertically and or horizontally but could not find how. I tried SHIFT, ALT, CMD but it does not work. In the SHIFT case a straight line gets drawn from the last point I released the mouse button. But this is not what I need. Is there any way to limit any painting tool horizontally / vertically? Is it possible to create a path with the pen tool and make a brush or any other tool follow this path? Thanks...
  18. Hi misc33, or even better go back to the roots with real airbrush and ruler ;)
  19. Hi, since in AP there is currently no tool to brush exactly horizontally and/or vertically I would like to have a tool which can brush along a path. So first I draw a path using the pen tool. This path can be a straight line or any bezier curve or mixed ones. Then I use any other tool like a brush, eraser brush, blur brush, etc. click that path and AP should apply the brush along the path. This would be very helpful on drawing retouching especially architectural images where lines and regular shapes ar very common. Hope you get what I mean ;)
  20. Hi, just to make it clear using the SHIFT key does not create a horizontal/vertical line. It draws a line from the last position I released the mouse button to that position I click next. That means there is currently no tool available to limit drawing horizontal, vertical or any selected degree. So it would be really nice to have a tool which can draw along a path. Then you would have all you need wether drawing exact horizontally / vertically (uisng a horizontal/vertical path) or following a path e.g. a curved one. I created a new idea for this: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/19674-brush-along-a-path/
  21. Hi, I use Affinity photo. As you know if you activate any tool from the left tools panel the horizontal context tool bar changes as well. It would be great if the currently selected tools symbol will appear as a bigger (and brighter) symbol in the left of the context tool bar to immediately catch which tool is currently selected. Here I tried (using Affinity photo :D ) to illustrate this: Without this improvement my eyes have to go down the whole tools panel and find that symbol/icon with the subtle darker background. This is currently the only way to detect the active tool. Thanks...
  22. Hi, currently I am learning all about Affinity Photo using the provided video tutorials. But I have a problem with following video: https://vimeo.com/143014223 The video does not move on at around 9:37. The movie stops but the moderator is talking further. I use latest version of Chrome browser and tested FireFox as well, but same problem. Does someone else face this problem?
  23. Hi, I am very new to Affinity photo and try to learn some important short cuts. I use Affinity photo on my iMac with El Capitan. I saw in a video that the squared brackets are used to increase/decrease the size of any brush. On a German keyboard these brackets reside on the key 8 and key 9 and are only accessable together with the shift key. At the location where the squared brackets are on an english keyboard on a german keyboard there is the 'ü' and the '+'. But if I hit either 'ü' or '+' the brush size does not change at all, I just got a dump sound. So how to I increase/decrease brush size on a german keyboard? Is there any mapping of shortcuts between english and german keyboard available? Thanks!
