  1. Justin, that's almost impossible: The image is a 48 bit TIFF with a file size of ~ 650 MB. My iNet connection is too slow for it. Maybe I can reproduce it with another file, I'll check it end of this week.
  2. Even if I don't move any slider and just hit 'Apply', AP crashes.
  3. Is there any way to assign a soft edge to the selection brush? I mean before I start to use the brush? Can't find any related topics in the HELP file.
  4. Maybe you didn't read the sarcasm in the first line. I just don't understand the wish lists for software. Sounds like coding a software is point and click. Instead of just trying to exploit the software as it is, some small minded people demand features which the majority won't need. This will lead to higher prices, a cluttered GUI, newer machines with even more RAM, more bugs and a larger footprint. People just can't wait for a development process. I'm waiting for someone to demand a musical annotation feature in Affinity Designer... Interesting: Most feature demands come from people who don't use the software on a professional basis. Even more interesting: Most people demand an iPad version to be free. As I said: I personally prefer a rock solid, fast and bug free application for my desktop and not a so-so application on my desktop and a kinky version for an iPad.
  5. When can we expect a version for my refrigerator? Or my car navigation system? Inquiring minds want to know! OK, to be honest, I would far more appreciate a stable system for Mac OS X, without too many features, small footprint. Please don't bloat this great software with absurd wishes! Without a smartphone (I'm still smarter than a damn phone!) and without an iPad I really don't need a mobile version. If I want to make a drawing while out of office, I prefer a sketch pad and a pencil because it is rain & water proof, shock resistant, doesn't need recharges or batteries, works in the arctics, deserts and jungles, doesn't have a 'best before x' stamp, and doesn't lose it's value.
  6. mac_heibu, I never could print to pdf from pages with a higher res than 72 dpi before I upgraded to Mavericks. What caused the limitation? The old Pages?
  7. Matt, you are correct. With the purchase of Affinity I had upgraded to Mavericks, and obviously the former limitations of the PDF print limitation is gone. I've confirmed this even with printing a PDF from Pages. This is really a large step forward, thanks for the hint.
  8. Acrobat Pro Preflight will always tell you the real dpi setting of any image element. If an image features 300 dpi, the preflight check will definitely show the 300 dpi. However, there is a difference between the export of a file and printing a file to pdf: the printing falls back to the Mac OS X system inherent 72 dpi based on the Quartz filter. As an alternative you can install GhostScript and set up a printer (to file), then print to file with GhostScript.
  9. I have no idea what you are doing wrong. Just set up an A4 landscape, placed some elements and exported the page to PDF. The preflight PDF check showed no errors, but the PDF/x-3 showed errors because of transparency of the placed *.png screenshots, missing intent, etc. You can download the PDF with all information here.
  10. What is the actual size/format of your cover? You specified 6x9, but the template neither matches centimeter nor inches. I have created an A6 document, units mm, resolution 300 dpi, CMYK/8 (why is there no 16 bit cmyk available?), added a headline, exported it as a pdf, checked it with Acrobat Professional X and everything was ok, even the image turned out fine with more than 300 dpi. So I guess your images are not 300 dpi... Anyway, usually I use Scribus to perform all my printing stuff. It's much more precise and simpler than any Acrobat product and generates the cleanest PDF files I've ever seen. Maybe an idea for you as well?
  11. OK, so then I insist on a purple GUI with bright green fonts, menus in Low German (would be fun!), export dialogs in Spanish, tools in american English. And the official flag from Peru as a background. Thanks for listening to my wishes.
  12. You don't have any other problems, don't you? I was born in Denmark, raised and educated in Germany, learned British English in school, later I've studied in the US, learned some Spanish as a side line. So I can handle 'both languages'. I lived and worked for a long time in Spain. Maybe I should request a German version while I am in Germany, and a Spanish version while I am in Spain? Hm, until today I counted 3 languages: German, English, Spanish. Maybe I should correct my language knowledge in my resumé: German, Low German, British English, American English, Spanish. 5 languages - wow. And imagine, I would never have had the idea to ask for an American version of Affinity. Thinking about it, I really should demand a Low German version. Or eventually a Historic German version? Or Middle High German? Or Swiss German? Geez, so little time, so much to do... Feel free to translate Affinity into all the above mentioned languages, I really would appreciate it.
  13. Yes. Ferdinand Porsche. Air cooled boxer engines, both in the beetle and the Porsche.
  14. Very good to read your wise decision! Keep it that way. At least I prefer a fast and stable software with a small footprint. Don't make it a Corel clone for the Mac please. Bingo, you have nailed it. Thanks a ton for the clarification.
  15. Peter, Staromat is handsetting type, that means it is a craft from times before the 'everything-automatic-stuff'. Type setters who could set type along a line or any shape made very good money. You need to have an eye for the look, the spacing, kerning, line height, etc. It irritates me that today everybody expects everything with a simple click. The first DTP software turned those old crafts obsolete. This doesn't mean that I don't like computers or 'modern' times, it's just that I want to remind everybody to use their brains before demanding new features. Sure, algorithms can make life easier, but it's always good to know the basics. This will separate you from dumb bean counters who purchase a vector design software and call themselves 'designers'. Or purchase cameras and call themselves 'photographers'.
  16. How often did you have an assignment for the circular tasks you have mentioned (or text on a line) during the past 12 months? Just curious, because if you have an education as a designer you know how to do that for headlines or tires. Remember the times of Staromat, when the type had to be hand set with lithographic film?
  17. I remember times when the shadows hit the market. It was a hype. Meanwhile shadows are boring. BTW, if you browse through leading magazines, you won't see text on a curve, text with shadows and all the freaking stuff nobody needs, except the cheap coupon magazines... If someone needs 3D, he can invest into Rhino 3D. Please keep Affinity Designer small, fast and stable and don't bloat it with unnecessary features. Almost everything (vector) can be done with Affinity, as long as the user knows how to do it (= learned his profession). Please keep Affinity Designer simple. I don't want to purchase a new iMac with a minimum of 16 GB RAM just to start this software...
  18. What I am missing is the export of selected vector elements. Coming from XARA and now being on a Mac, I really miss this feature. OK, I could resize the canvas, but that's only a work around. BTW, using the export persona the frame/selection does NOT snap to any of the selected options... maybe you can fix this with the next version.
