  1. The way I work is this: I make diaries from our rather long travels with pictures etc. – 20-25 pages. When I start a new diary, I make a copy of the last one to keep the settings for different paragraphs and other settings for the new diary. And that should keep the settings for spelling correction and hyphenation including different languages. When I did that yesterday the spelling correction was lost. Now I tried again, and it was not lost. So, I wonder what went wrong.
  2. There is nothing about dictionary folders in Application Settings > Tools. Am I looking the wrong place?
  3. Walt. It seems to me that you answer people as if they were using Publisher for the first time. I have been working with Publisher more than a year. After getting help to install dictionnaries spelling control and hyphenation has worked fine for me with any language: Danish, English, Spanish, German, Italian. I can choose any needed language in the panel. But now "Check spelling" from the Text menu suddenly says with any language.: ”Document contains languages (da-DK) for which no dictionnary is installed“. But don't tell me to install dictionnaries once again. Something must have gone wrong with last update of MacOS 14.4.1 or Publisher 2.4.1
  4. Well, I think I found it here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/191879-unofficial-pdf-manual-expert-guide-to-affinity-publisher/ But as always Affinity makes everything more complicated than necessary. I and have to study the manual everytime I want to make an index once more. In InDesign TOC and index were two related topics. But not in Affinity. Good luck
  5. I want to put som text in a number of photos with the Photo app. I want to use the same font, font size and font color with all of them. But every time I open a new file, I have to run the procedure: choose the font, choose the size, choose the color. How can I do that more easy? Select a default font while I work with this project? Ask the app to remember last used font?
  6. I agree. Alphabetical index is an example of Affinity making some solutions unnecessarily complicated. Do as InDesign when you e.g. want to make a songbook: Paragraph style intended for song titles are put in alphabetical index. Fine that you can more complicated references. But please leave the easy and simple working solutions for the rest of us.
  7. Thanks a lot for letting me know that I can change the colour of the interface. I believe that it will be a great help in the future!😀
  8. Affinity Pub has a lot of features, that I did not have with InDesign, some of them are visible, some of them can be hard to find. My 73 years old eyes are getting tiree and confused looking at small light gray letters on a black background. I hope you will agree that the attached file shows a more user friendly interface. Affinity have a tendency to make simple actions more complicated than necessary compared to other applications. – By the way: I have worked with text, DTP and pictures. including PageMaker/InDesign on Mac more than 30 years in connection with my work and privately. I agree that an old fashioned line tool with possibility to add arrows would be a nice gift in the next update. Some person responsible from the Affinity team, please ask: do you understand this what I am saying? Do you agree? Ove Steen Smidt, Denmark
  9. "There is a reported issue in the forums with Help on macOS Sonoma, I think." Yes, I can not search the way GarryP shows.
  10. Here are a few suggestions to make Affinity Publisher better: User interface has light gray letters on a black backgroud, which is very timing for eyes more than 70 years old. Please make it possible to select a user interface with black letters on white background. I am convinced that Affinity holds an incredible wealth of possiblities of great use to those who work with it daily in a professional context. For the rest of us happy amateurs who, like me, have been working with similar applications for more than 30 years, a much more intuitive approach is lacking and a more user-friendly help function. Example: I would like to draw an arrow between two objects in a Publisher document. I rarely do that. So I forgot how to do it. A relevant tool is not immidiately visible. I type “arrow” in “Help”. It just tells me to go to “Affinity Publisher Help – Get answers fast” (!) There I can type “arrow” once more with no result . Or I can browse the entire register of headers in the help menu, trying to guess where the answer might be hidden. I try to guess: should I use the Pen tool? – I type “Pen tool” in “Help”. – Same poor result. Couldn’t it be made a Little smarter. Every question to “Help” should directly give the following: - Which tool to use - What this tool can do - Where to find the tool - How to use it
  11. And text styles may be Paragraph Styles as well as Character Styles? When you create a new style based on another style and give the new style new characteristics it should not influence the styles which it is based on? Shouldn't it?
  12. 3-bar icon on the upper-right of the panel has "Show Typography" which gives a box, where I can do nothing. The simple question is: Where can I go to edit a paragraph style, and where can I go to edit a Character style. The problem is: I have a Paragraph Style for my diary called "Menu" telling what we did eat and drink on our holiday in Italy. There I want to change the spelling for single italian words into italian. Now when I created a Character Style called "Italian" the default language for the Paragraph Style was changed into Italian. I am sorry to take your time. But it is very difficult to look up the answers in the Help-Menu.
  13. Yes, it is easy to create the character style. But I do not understand how to apply the keyboard shortcut. If the style shows up in the list of styles, is it a tool item or a men item? And how do I apply the shortcut? And just want to be able to select the word/words and do the shortcut, and voila...! And I want the Shortcuts to work with all new Publisher documents. There are a lot of possibilixies in the Settings. I don't think most of them are of any importance for me. I am the only user. I don't have to personalize anything.
