I seem to have lost my tools any advice would be appreciated thanks.

first thank you all for your advice. And as you see I reduce the ramp in refine, and it seems to have worked.

After using the Selection brush and then using refine I keep getting Feathering around the subject. Help appreciated .

I should have said I am using Affinity photo 1.9.3 And I did as you suggest, and it worked but, as before but when I drop the image it still just disappeared.

I am sorry, I have not made my self clear, whilst moving part of an image, so that I was going to put behind or should say on the other side of a fence. the fence being the background while put the first image down and under the background it just disappears advice will be appreciated .
